Alton And Hortense - Jamaica Talk

Having known Hortense as a good buddy for over 20 years, I was obviously shattered when she died in Kingston Public Hospital on October 19 2000.
When I became computer literate in 2006, I was disturbed to find that she had virtually no web presence; and even more disturbed to find that those sites mentioning her often included inaccurate facts - even Wiki orignally had her year of birth as 1949. Had Hortense been born in 1949 she would have been (a) a child of 12 when she began recording and (b) a child of 11 when she had her first daughter, Christel aka Joy. I quickly corrected the year of birth to 1941 whenever the opportunity arose.
In 2007, I created the Hortense Ellis website at An Introduction and a few months later, created the Hortense Ellis MySpace page at MySpace.com - HORTENSE ELLIS - Harlesden LONDON UK - Reggae - www.myspace.com/hortenseellis
Following Alton's sad passing, I created the Alton & Hortense Memorial MySpace at MySpace.com - ALTON & HORTENSE - IN LOVING MEMORY - 53 - Male - London and South East - www.myspace.com/altonandhortense and just recently, I have divided the original Hortense MySpace into two pages; leaving the riginal page as a bio and discography page and creating a new Hortense Ellis Music page at MySpace.com - HORTENSE ELLIS MUSIC - BROOKLYN, New York - www.myspace.com/hortenseellismusic for videos.

I met her and her Daughters about 1996, and i was talking with her for a good while on her music, she had signed one of her poster sized pictures and gave me. and the last thing i said to her was that i would make a casette tape with stricly all of her songs from my collection. and she was very happy to recieve it. She unknownly was the very first female Dj [Toaster] or as the americans would say rapper, as well as as a very known singer in the Reggae World.

I referred to Hortense in my initial post (Newbie section) and got accused of spamming. So I decided against participating further in this forum. However, if you have met Christel (Joy), Sandy and Jaxine, then you deserve to see the pic taken in Orange Street in 1977.
