Jamaica....the NO way.

Ok, So though most here are not Jamaican natives, many have been to Jamaica more times than enough to have some opinion about the places that they have been to and the things that they have experienced to offer more than enough "DO's".
But for the benefits of those who havent yet been there or who have, but have plans to return, how about a few "DONTS"? ...

As per your recommendations:
  • Where in Jamaica should visitors NOT go?
  • What should they NOT do?
  • If they stay at a resort and they wish to take a tour of the local sorrounding areas, how would they know which taxis to take and which ones NOT to?
  • When on the beach and approached by a local, should they ignore them and walk on by, or should they stop and chat?
  • Should you offer tips to locals at the hotel that you stay?
  • What should you NOT do if you visit a local entertainment spot like a night club, etc?
  • If asked by locals, should you talk about yourself?

I would not reccomend that you go to some areas of kingston like, Mountainveiw.....and If you do please be careful only to listen to Bob Marley...everyone loves him and you won't get beat up or shot for it....
I don't take a lot of taxis but I think the ones with the red Plates are supposed to be safe, I reccommend that you find out what it should cost from a reliable source before you go and only offer to pay that to the taxi.....
Yes tip everyone they are struggling and the hotels pay crap.
I would not go off any where remote at night alone or even with peeps you don't know very well .....its also best I find any where i go thats unfamiliar, keep a low profile.
I would not give away too much personal info to locals, but general conversation is ok...use common sense....same that you might use any where.
I also think that women should be very careful who they walk off with on the Beach...because some of those men in the resort areas can be very aggressive sexually and if you can't hold your own and put them in there place it could get ugly.

Also watch out fi di mawga dawgs on the beach they will go right in your back pack and snatch out any food if you don't chase them away...i had that happen to me, cause i was playin with the puppies and while they distracted me the mom went in my bag...lolololol smart azz teif dawgs....dem rum off wit my leftova jerk pork! cho!

HT...Whats up with you today?/ You seem to have eaten a funny burger./

But Seriously...Your recommendations above are very good and "common-sense" worthy.

Why Mountain view though?
Did you have a bad experience there?

Gotcha!

So......AGAIN IN YOUR OPINION..

Considering that its not ALL or MOST of the locals who are bent on fooling or ripping off the hearts and pockets of visitors....How would you advise someone who meets a local who seems interesting BUT they appear to work or frequent the tourist area?
Should they avoid them totally, considering that they are obvious "regulars" or should they just be cautious in engaging them on a social level>?
The bottom line...Should "appealing/attractive" locals who appear to be regulars in the tourist areas be avoided entirely?

Should such people be disbelived entirely or held in doubt to some degree?

I would advise a visitor to just be careful. Have fun. Use common sense and be aware that a lot of the "appealing" locals can be fun to hang out with, but want waaaay more than that.

Re: Jamaica....the NO way.

I've never been to Jamaica, but visiting all these damn message boards here's a few things that I've picked up...either someone gave it as a "tip" or I just gathered from reading countless trip reports.

Where in Jamaica should visitors NOT go?
  • What should they NOT do? Not fall in love after their 1st visit to jamaica.
  • If they stay at a resort and they wish to take a tour of the local sorrounding areas, how would they know which taxis to take and which ones NOT to? Take a red plate taxi via the street/road, or if you feel like paying more...ask the front desk at your hotel and they can arrange for transportation accordingly.
  • When on the beach and approached by a local, should they ignore them and walk on by, or should they stop and chat? I personally would stop and chat depending on how they approached me or their intentions. I wouldn't stop for a "Hey hot gyal" lmao. But if you're feeling anti-social...keep them legs moving. You're not breaking any laws by staying mute, in most cases it'd be a good idea.
  • Should you offer tips to locals at the hotel that you stay? Tip a local? Sure if they gave you a service (not that kind of service, lol) but like if they took u on a tour or something...otherwise, No.
  • What should you NOT do if you visit a local entertainment spot like a night club, etc?Go home with the first guy that daggers you on the dancefloor, take anyone you just met back to your room, eat jerk chicken past midnight...I hear it gives you indigestion
  • If asked by locals, should you talk about yourself? Yes. Talk about yourself and your wonderful job and wonderful life in the US...and expect a marriage proposal by the end of your stay. J/K, I don't know what kind of question this is. If the intentions of the person asking about you are deceptive...than of course one would keep all pertinent information to themselves.
