Re: A resort does not restrict you unless you allow it to
I spent the last week of my holiday at Riu Palace in Negril and I had a fantastic time, my only complaint was the food, yuk! after my Sisters cooking, well nothing could match that.

Looks nice....it looks like Riu in Negril is exactly like Riu in Ochi...and the food was terrible there too.

Nice pics 1stP. Glad you had a safe and enjoyable trip!
I love to stay at the resorts... and can be quite picky about it as well!
I agree with you and HT... the food isn't usually the best when it comes to the local dishes.... There is definitely something to be said for some freshly grilled snapper with rice & peas created from locals hands!

Re: A resort does not restrict you unless you allow it to
I have not stayed in an AI in Jamaica, but I definitely would! I went to Mexico with my best friend a number of years ago and we stayed in an AI - it was great!! We didn't just stay at the resort either - we rented a jeep and drove around, did a few shopping trips, etc. But it was nice because we could party at the resort, and not worry about how we were going to get back to our hotel! Although, even on the resort we managed to have some funny stories about that!
My husband has never stayed in a place like that, and I would like for him to get the opportunity. I can see doing what you did 1stP - break the trip up - a week at an AI and the rest of the time with family.

I actually own yearly vacation time at an AI in Mexico. The place is incredible... I just wish I could afford the airfare to enjoy it!!
Besides enjoying the spa side of things... I LOVE the children centers many AI's have.

Its similar to Ochi, but more for couples than families. I am told Riu Club, a half mile down the road is more like the one in Ochi. I went to Tropical Bay for the standard of accomodation/service at RIU and the drinks as evenings I was rarely on site so I'd just eat out. Breakfast was always good and really when in JA I rarely would eat in the day. I'll no doubt go again.
