Your first time.....
The first time you visited Jamaica, How soon after arriving and what was:- The first thing someone (a local) said to you, on arrival?
- What was your first drink?
- What was your first meal?
- What fun thing did you first do?
- What was your first disappointing moment?
- How soon after being there did you first decide that you just had to return once again?
- When did you first understand the local dielect spoken between two locals?
- When did you first try to speak the local dielect?
- When did you first taste the local cooking, not preapred at the hotel; or a tourist restaurant?
- What food did you first reject but eventually tasted?
- When did you make your first local friend?

Re: Your first time.....
The first time I returned to Jamaica after being away for many many years...
My first conversation was with a local Immigration Officer. We recognized me right away and we chatted about back in the day.
My first drink was an iced cold Red Stripe Beer.
My first meal was Brown Stew Snapper and Rice and Peas.
My first disappointment was a friend of mine who told me that she had B/cancer and I was not man enought to deal with it.

Welcome to Jamaica!
What was your first drink?
Rum Punch...for some reason that day they were handing them out at the airport for free. Never seen them do that since!
What was your first meal?
Can't remember, but probably something hotel-ish. I won the trip and I was at an AI.
What fun thing did you first do?
First night we hit a beach party at Sun Beach in Negril.
What was your first disappointing moment?
Being stuck in a hotel with the group who gave away this trip. It was way too scheduled a trip for me.
How soon after being there did you first decide that you just had to return once again?
Within the first day there.
When did you first understand the local dielect spoken between two locals?
Right away.
When did you first try to speak the local dielect?
Never.
When did you first taste the local cooking, not preapred at the hotel; or a tourist restaurant?
Second trip while staying in a local's house.
What food did you first reject but eventually tasted?
Not sure but it probably had meat in it. Not a big meateater. Ackee was the next one.
When did you make your first local friend?
|
On day two of first trip. The police officer who was hired as security for our group.

Re: Your fist time.....
Sorry about the many questions.
While you were there in jamaica....
Have you ever been to downtown kingston?
Have you ever taken a local public transportation?
Have you ever been in any social circle and you were the ONLY foreigner there?
Have you ever been in any 'hostile' area?
When were you first (if ever) in fear?
Have you seen/met any rich/affluent locals?
Have you ever been to any area down there considered as the ghetto?
Have you ever been verbally attacked by a local?

Re: Your fist time.....
Oh and in my public transport answer I thought it meant buses. I take route taxi's all the time. Almost took a public bus from Mobay to Negril, but was offered a ride last minute.

Some Jamaicans don't take rejection well, that's why. And I believe with the second chase, yes I felt I was in real danger because even the Jamaican that was driving the car I was in was scared of this person.
