How do I get from Montego Bay to Negril and back?

I want to spend two nights in Montego Bay and two nights in Negril but I'm wondering what is the best (cheapest) way to get there?

I fly into Montego Bay on a Saturday evening at 6:00pm and fly out the next Wednesday at noon but I have to be at the airport most likely two hours before that time.

I was thinking of renting a car but I don't want to kill myself on Jamaican roads since it's probably worse than driving in Italy and they drive on the left which might seem pretty tough. So any suggestions?

Here is my sample calendar:

Saturday: arrive in MoBay, stay the night.
Sunday: night in MoBay
Monday: get up in the morning, head to Negril. Check into hotel
Tuesday: night in Negril
Wednesday: get up extra early, head to Mobay to make my flight to Kingston

Edit: I have to add that renting a car does seem really appealing. Would I be in great danger of highway robbery or being ambushed because I'm a tourist in a nice new rental car? It seems like the best bet but it's still a bit expensive.

All my worries pretty much come from what I've read online so if I sound like a pessimist this is why.

LOL FM you're so cute
Renting a car does sound appealing although i've never done it. I just don't trust myself to stay on the correct side of the road. Although I'm probably gonna do it next week. I highly doubt you will get ambushed Your biggest concern might be navigating traffic circles and driving on the opposite side.

Pretty much anyone you get to take you is gonna charge $60 US one way. Gas is high and its a 1.5 hour drive. So whether you take a cab or a tour bus it'll cost you.

I personally would get someone to drive me.

I am betting Jamaica Miss can suggest someone if you PM her. I used to have a guy's number; but not sure where it is anymore.

Re: How do I get from Montego Bay to Negril and back?

Wow, thanks for all the responses. It looks like hiring someone to drive you is the best way to go. Plus I bet you could learn some things about Jamaica that you wouldn't figure out on your own. Today I submitted an email to TimAir to see how much it costs to fly from Negril to Montego Bay but I have a feeling it will be expensive as hell.

Also thanks JamCan I do try to be cute.....haha.

Re: How do I get from Montego Bay to Negril and back?

Wow that is beautiful H.S. ....having a driver looks like the best way to go. Driving back to get to the airport in time is the main concern I have. If I don't get to the airport in time to check in I'm screwed. I'll figure it out but getting a driver makes much more sense.

Also just found out that TimAir is way too damn expensive as quoted in the email they sent back to me:

The one-way charter rate for one passenger is US $193.00. If paying by credit card instead of Cash or travelers cheques, there is a 3.5% card user fee to be added to these amounts quoted.

I guess people who fly TimAir own trees that grow money. I want one of those trees.

So he has a big fleet of vehicles? If so that seems like a very nice thing. Their prices seem very reasonable too.

Are some of the female drivers going to ask me to marry them? If they're hot I'll marry them for 4 days..haha. Also is it customary to tip these drivers, if so how much? I don't want to seem like a jackass if they are expecting a tip and I don't give one. It looks like another piece of my Jamaican trip puzzle is going to be put into place.
