Port Antonio

I want to first thank the kind members whom have welcomed me to this site and who have assured me that there are wonderful people around here. Some of you have shared your regrets to what I was subject to in my first few days and I appreciate your support and encouragement, thank you.

Since I have been having a difficult time finding info on Port Antonio, I am putting the question out here in hopes to not only get a tourists point of view, but hopefully some direction from the locals too.

We are looking for activities for our teenage boys to keep them busy. They don't sit still for very long and we like to keep them busy.

We are also interested in the local restuarants & traditional foods/dishes. What to eat and what to stay away from.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes I have, and have also visited a few other places. What I am looking for are more of personal accounts with the place as well as locals knowledge. The places I have been too lack the locals input.

She said they're teenagers. I brought my teenager to JA and boredom was definitely NOT an issue. Take them cliff diving.....they'll love it.

Re: Port Antonio

Holidays to new places should be about discovery....

Having gleaned information on Jamaica from the internet, perhaps you should wait a little and discover things for yourself... not plan quite so down-to-the-second...

Jamaica -whilst steeped in history is essentially a playground...

Unless your teens are into museums and family excursions, which can be found here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g147314-Activities-Port_Antonio_Jamaica.html I would suggest you perhaps allow them to learn how to snorkel / dive at the beach or just do what Jamaican's do and relax.... remember

Don't worry about a thing - 'cos every little thing's gonna be alright!

Re: Port Antonio

Jelakins, That is good advice, but I have two of them nagging me about what there is to do. They were wondering if there are any sort of four wheel excursions or these things called zip lines.

I still would like any advice from people that have actually been there and what there experiences are. What they liked or what to stay away from.

Thank you for that link.

Re: Port Antonio

Welcome back Maya....sorry for any of the issues and I'm glad you stuck around.

As for Port Antonio, I was only there for a day. I went to the Blue Lagoon and had a great time! You can go for a swim or take a raft ride around it. I do reccomend if you have time!

Oh..And I believe there is some sort of popular restuarant overlooking it, but I never had the chance to go there.

Re: Port Antonio

Well Maya this is all I got for ya:

http://www.portantoniojamaica.com/

I know you're looking for people who have "experienced" it....I guess its just not that well-traveled by members of our board. Port Antonio is more of an eco-tourism place, not really the beaten path.

Re: Port Antonio

for ATV rides and stuff like that, you may have to book through www.chukkacaribbean.com or www.viator.com. You may have to drive to Ocho for those kinds of activities. Also, I think you can take surfing lessons at Boston Beach (at least that's what I read in Budget Travel magazine). I heard that Frenchman's Cove is a must-see as well.

I haven't been to Port Antonio, but I'm getting ready to go in April, so I've been looking around for stuff to do there as well.
