I was a Titanic fanatic at one point....read and saw everything I could get my hands on. Told Jomo a few years ago when he was considering cruise ship work, that I would fly to ports to see him; but would NEVER get on a ship.

Re: what's good in ochie?
Our producer told us there is Cruise ship traffic every day. And remember JC's pictures? Sure seemed like everyday. And Dunn's is too expensive anyway. What about hotels? Any recommendations?
So sad that that my man won't be able to come with me.........., but if he leaves, he ain't coming back! All his relatives live between Ochie and Riversdale (St. Catherine), so I guess I'll be meeting them when I'm there. Nervous to meet them all without him!!

Re: what's good in ochie?
You will be fine - just always be yourself and they will love you. Do you want all-inclusive or not? Jamaica Grande is nice, as is RIU(its in Mammee Bay), also Jamaica Inn is very nice as well. There is a different kind of Accomdation for everyone. I believe JC stayed at Rooms on the Beach and liked it, I don't believe its all-inclusive.

Re: what's good in ochie?
NYC we have an Ocho Rios thread if you're just looking for things to do there.
And yes, there's a ship 6 out of 7 days....and there's one day a week when there are TWO ships there.
Rooms on the Beach was very cool...I like it. And cheap too.

Re: what's good in ochie?
I think hotels may be a challenge. Since its work-related (ie: free for me!), I don't really need to be as cheap as I would on my own. So it would make sense to do an all-inclusive, right? NOT!! You see......these DIVA models, photogs and hair-dressers don't like to stay anywhere where there's a "buffet situation" involved. They are such freaks. And room service is a must. Help!! I am a full time baby sitter to these people!

Re: what's good in ochie?
I would suggest possibly a villa with a cook and ground staff - Villa Vientop is very nice alot of bands and celebs have stayed there it is owned by Eva Myers who runs Evitas Italian restaurant - we were married there - the staff are wonderful and we went to see them on this trip - they cater to whatever you want, it has large grounds and 7 rooms - 2 in the main house, 3 in another building and 2 more in another. It is cliff side to the sea and has a pool.
You can contact her thru Evitas or I can pm you her email address. They have a web site also believe it is www.villaviento.com? Ill double check that but if you google Villa Viento you will find it.

Re: what's good in ochie?
Well, we have settled on the hotel "Sunset Grande Jamaica". Yes its an all-inclusive, but apparently the food is good and they seem to have options other than the dreaded buffet (don't get me wrong, I LOVE a buffet....again its the DIVAS I worry about). And they gave us such a good rate, that I can afford to take the crew off-property for a few dinners and still stay within budget. Has anyone been there? Any feedback? Any cute boys to look up? Ha ha, just kidding. I have the cutest already!
This will be my first trip to JA in 7 years! I think I'll see everything in a new & unique way, now that I'm involved w/ a Jamaican, and also since I've been reading this website, and seeing all the love you all have for Jamaica. I can't wait. For the Jamaicans that live away from yard, what can I bring back for my sweetie? Something that you can't get in US? He wants canned cheese, but I'm sure there must be other stuff! Thanks!
