Airline/Airport Comments?

Here's a thread that could prove useful to travelers going to JA or anywhere.

Post any positive OR negative feedback about the various airlines you've used and airports you've visited.

Re: Airline/Airport Comments?

Okay I'm posting first since I just visited 4 airports in the last 6 days. And people, I hate to be biased but out of Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Houston and my hometown Calgary, Canada.....I have to say MINE impressed me the most. As soon as I stepped off the plane there is a guy from our tourist board welcoming me to Calgary. I said "thanks, its great to be home".

Houston has poor signage and I didn't see a duty-free store in sight!! So much for my 2 big, cheap bottles of liquor I wanted to bring back.

Re: Airline/Airport Comments?

Well I smoke so I carry gum all the time....not a problem.

The Pearson airport in Toronto is absolutely HUGE and I had a problem with the massive underground tunnel system to get from one terminal to another. I usually take a bus to get around there but thought I'd try the walk underground one time since I had time to kill. The problem was when I finally went UP where I was supposed to I was so turned around that I was just plain lost. Oh and there's NOTHING open there at 6AM!!!!

Well I usually carry gum all the time too but I was out and figured I could easily get some in the gift shop in the Airport....I was stunned...It seemed like everyone there already knew about this strange rule but I was the only one in the dark.....no one seemed to think it was such a big deal accept for me cause I am so retarded about flying. Wel I am over it now but I think the Olando Airport is Bugged out just for that!!!!

Re: Airline/Airport Comments?

The absolute WORST airline, without a doubt, that I've ever flown is America West. All 4 planes between here and Orlando were the worst.... terrible staff, horrible flights. I actually wrote a letter of complaint to them when I got home and ended up getting a $100 voucher for a future flight. The only crappy part about that is now I have to fly with them again if I want to use the damn voucher.

Re: Airline/Airport Comments?

OMG....You hit a nerve with this one cause I have sooooooooo many complaints.

Northwest Airlines: batroom in first class backed up...delayed us 3 hours. 2 of those just to find a maintenance person to fix it. Then, on the return flight, deicing problems delayed us over an hour. Got home and the front door would not open. Had to exit off the back stairs. Will never ever fly them again.

Delta: Delayed 3 hours in JA cause baggage cart hit plane. They ended up duct taping the plane. Tried not to think about it. Then, engine problems left us stranded in Atlanta. This is their Hub. Planes sitting everywhere...we had a crew....we had a full plane...think they could've just given us another? Must be so much cheaper to put a whole plane load of people and a crew in a hotel over night with transportation and travel vouchers, right? Wonder why they are always in financial troubles.

Delta #2: One stewardess on small plane. Went home to family emergency. Waited 3 hours for them to fly up another before we could leave Cincinnati.

AA: Just yesterday. Verified, changed flights, spoke directly to a AA rep. to make sure Jomo and I had seats next to each other. Boarding flight in Miami yesterday only to find they had put us 18 rows away from each other (they somehow gave away my seat printed on my boarding pass!!) Ended up taking 2 seats in the same row, on seperate sides on the exit row. After begging and pleading (and trying not to slap the 3 a$$holes who turned me down) talked someone into changing with one of us. Did not have a window seat. Pissed. Finally, after telling our story, the one guy did move just as we got over St. Louis so Jomo could see it for the first time from the air.

Sick and tired of airlines!!!!!! Their prices are rising and their service is crap.

Memphis airport sucks. Those clowns in customs went through my stuff with a fine tooth comb. They even pulled out the pages of my scrapbook and looked between them. Not sure what would even fit in between them. It was like they had to prove how big bad and tough they were. While huge airports like Atlanta and Miami just wave you through.

Otherwise, I have had good luck with most airports. Love Atlanta, Charlotte, & O'Hara. Not so fond of Dallas/FW, Houston, Detroit, or Miami; but they are okay. And, of course, we all know Sangster International is questionable most times.

Re: Airline/Airport Comments?

See this is good information for people!

Although I never had any problems with NWA when I came to see you Jomo, smooth sailing all the way EXCEPT for one flight coming down there. The in-flight recorder was broken so we were an hour late waiting on them to fix it.

Air Canada and WestJet are fantastic, never had any problems with them. My son flew WestJet a few times as an unaccompanied minor and was treated very well.

I flew Continental on the way back from Indiana and I was floored that there is still an airline that serves food for free! Makes the price of the ticket feel a bit more worth it. It was a fine airline as well.

Re: Airline/Airport Comments?

Didn't you take it as a bad sign they had to have the flight data recorder working properly? I'm thinking NWA is so questionable, the FDR is a MUST for them!!!!!

Re: Airline/Airport Comments?

See and I'd say its a must for America West! I sat by the emergency exit on their plane and I swear the door wasn't even sealed because my feet got frostbit within a half hour of being in the air. I even asked the flight attendant if she could bring some blankets....so she stuffed 4 blankets in between my feet and the emergency door but the freakin ice-cold air STILL came through! I prayed for my life on that flight, thinking the door was going to fly open and I'd get sucked out.

Re: Airline/Airport Comments?

And, food???? Really? I swear the packs of snacks are getting smaller and smaller. AA won't even give you a water bottle........I know that is cause they are just refilling the one with bathroom water over and over again.

I was actually floored this trip cause we had 2 all male flight crews on the way to JA. Best crews I think I have ever experienced. Mind, you, the whole time I am thinking they are chi chi and I hope they don't actually get off the plane in JA in fear for their lives!

Eeeeew....gross....I have a feeling though that is why they don't sell gum in Orlando Airport...cause people chew it and stick it under the seats and such!
They are prolly scared that some will stick some on Mickey Mouse!

Re: Airline/Airport Comments?

Punta Cana Airport is an experience. You deboard your plane on the tarmac and walk to the airport, which resembles a big palapa. Before you go thru Immigration/Customs, there's a kiosk in the middle manned by a couple of surly women slapping the countertop and demanding "Next! Hurry!" where you can purchase an entry card as proof that you've paid the mandatory $10 entry fee. After passing thru Immigration/Customs, you're immediately asked to hand over the plastic entry card that you purchased just moments before. What's the point of purchasing a card that you must immediately relinquish, anyway? Why not simply pay the entry fee at Immigration/Customs and dispense with the stupid charade with the card?

Re: Airline/Airport Comments?

Well The Los Cabos, Mexico Airport was fun in the very same way Wahoo.....I especially like the Charming fellows with AK47s who don't even look like they ever crack a smile....wouldn't want to cross them. But Cabo San Lucas was one of the best Vacation spots I have been too....Went there on a deep sea fishing trip.....caught a 200lb marlin what a rush......well maybe he was only 150 lbs...the size of that fish gets bigger every time I talk about it.
