Rentacell - that's a great idea! I will check with my friend tonight to see if I should be getting one for myself, and if he thinks so I will be in touch.

Re: What brought you to Jamaica???

I love this thread. It gives me a better insight of the users' personalities and how they came to love Jamaica.

My daughter and I came on a cruise in November, 2003. Stopped in Mobay. She stayed at Margaritaville. I found a guide, saw a little of Mobay and then off to St Ann's Bay for a wonderful lunch. Saw more country, and almost didn't make it back to the ship (About 10 minutes to spare). This was a Wednesday. On Sunday when we returned to New Orleans, I booked a flight back and within 2 hours of leaving the ship was on a plane to Mobay. Stayed a few days to make sure I was feeling all those wonderful vibes and to make sure I had found the place for early retirement, returned home and started making plans to sell my home and pack up. Returned in Jan, 2004 and started the paperwork on buying my home in Ja. After several more trips to do the legal papers and go through the rigamarole of settling in Ja, I took possession of my home in Nov, 2004.

A lot of people still think I'm crazy for being so impetuous, since it was not my nature to do spur of the moment trips or to sell off a lot of my possessions, but I know I made the right decision. When people downgrade Jamaica, I get very resentful, usually silently. They also conjure up the weirdest ideas about it without having set foot on it's shores. Recently someone said she could never visit because they would probably cook the food in some kind of oil made from an animal. That provoked a hearty laugh from me and a brief explanation of what is available in the line of cooking oils.

Re: What brought you to Jamaica???

I was sent to live with my Uncle and Auntie in Clarendon when my Mother became very sick and my Father was working away in Europe. I returned to England at the age of 13 but my Jamaican Auntie continued to be the biggest single influence in my life until her passing 2 years ago.

Ditto Miss. I find it very interesting that there are so many reasons people are involved with JA. Yours and David's are quite unique stories I think.

Re: What brought you to Jamaica???

A promotion for the newly renovated Starfish brought me to Jamica. I returned within a few months. I'm just returning after 3 years. I am so revived and uplifted during my stay that I hate to go home.

Re: What brought you to Jamaica???

My girlfriends dragged me there April 2001 after a sad divorce from my ex husband. I went kicking and screaming, "no I can't go". But as soon as I landed, I was hooked. I fell in LOVE with everything. The people, the ocean, the food, the vibe to name of few. Been there 15 times since. It's my home away from home. I tried many of time to get my mom to come down there and she kicked and screamed too. But since her 1st trip in July 2005, she's been down there 2 more times. I love it and can't wait to go my 2nd time this year!

Re: What brought you to Jamaica???

i started working for an airline that flys to JA every day of the week unlike other Carribean islands where we would only fly once or twice a week. where we have to fly standby, the islands we fly to only once or twice is too much of a risk to visit so thats what made me decided on JA. i went to JA for the first tme in Feb '99 and have gone back 13 times since. i truly feel like my soul is in JA and no matter what i will retire there.

now its more going back to visit friends (family!) then to explore the island but even after 14 trips there are places i want to go that i have not seen yet.

;-)

Awesome Lillith! What airline do you work for? I'm Canadian too and maybe should consider a career change!
