Passport Update!!!
Hey everyone!
Just a heads up, some of you may already know this, but for those who DO NOT, starting December 2005 a PASSPORT will be needed to enter JA! you will no longer be allowed or able to leave this country with just your birth certificate and/or state id!!! so, PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THIS and if you will be going to JA around that time, please note you WILL need this proper identification.

Re: Passport Update!!!
i just picked up two applications from the post office today. i'm gonna get one for lil man and me as soon as i get his birth certificate. i read that the new passports will have a microchip embedded in it and that they hope to have them in all passports within 18 months. whoa! technology ain't no joke...makes me think of that movie where people were taking the mark of the beast with these microchips.

Re: Passport Update!!!
To add to Tia's post, the US Dept of State Web site states that currently valid passports will be honored until their expiration date. That's a relief to me, because my passport's only two years old and I thought I might be required to replace it with the new swipable passport, but they're being phased in.

I don't think so ..... that's why we became members here on ETJ--- to keep us updated on everything we need to know and that includes passports. I don't see anyone else complaining....Sorry!

Re: Passport Update!!!
Thought I'd post a quick update to the update! Apparently the US State Dept. ammended the timeline on requiring passports for travel between the US and the Caribbean. The date is now 12/31/2006. Whew. Here is the link for those of you that want to see it for yourself:
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2225.html
I did call, anyway, just to be sure and they confirmed that the date was moved back because so many people objected that the timeline was too short. Good news if you're like us and not everyone in your travel party has a passport!

Re: Passport Update!!!
This summer the US has changed yet again. Because of the backlog on processing passports, you can again travel with just your ID and birth certificate, as long as you have applied for a passport and have proof of applying. I think it runs until September. Some say it will last even longer.

Re: Passport Update!!!
Passport update . . . my best gurlbuddy went to apply for her passport today and was told that she made it "just in time" because the rate was going "sky high". Anybody else hear this??? How much will be it??

Re: Passport Update!!!
Here in the US, they're $93 -- but they're good for 10 years.
