Re: Jammie's MASSIVE Sumfest 2008, ridiculously photographic trip report.
welcome back jammie. this is wonderful to see pics of u and jamaica. i am so missing that place like crazy.
what i love best about the thread so far - the pic of ackee (doesnt it look like a bag full of erm...female bits lol), your continuous references to Mafrado HAHAHAHA. I hate Mafrado too but I LOVE Movado heehee. i love Busy too. damn i miss jamaica and my ex bf's music collection.
i only got my hair braided once cos my bf 12 yr old niece wanted to do it. it sucked, i took it out immediately and never let her do it again. but man when im there i have to get used to girls wanting to do things with my hair. i feel like the Girls World mannequin.
cliff looks nice too! damn im gonna be away from the pc till monday after this morning so will have lots of reading to do!

Re: Jammie's MASSIVE Sumfest 2008, ridiculously photographic trip report.
The morning after Sumfest me & Ashley headed back to the Gloriana for some much needed sleep, although we didn't get much. Went to bed around 6:30am but we knew we had to be up by 11 for the hotel to switch our rooms. When we checked in they didn't have my reservation so they stuck us in this GIANT room with like 6 beds in it LOLOL. I totally forgot to take a picture of the monster room before we checked out.
They ended up moving us into the most ghetto room EVER! It was long and skinny, like a walkway and there was NO room to move in there The only reason we didn't complain is because we never really spend much time in the hotel since we're out doing stuff.
After we move rooms, a guy that Ashley met at the airport her first day calls her. He said him and his friend are in Mobay and he wants to come see her. So she tells them where we are and they show up at the hotel shortly after. The guy's name is Nicholas and he brought his friend ONeil. Well what a small world it is because when they walked in I TOTALLY knew ONeil from past trips. He used to work at Rondel Village, my old hang out in Negril. LOL what a coincidence.

Re: Jammie's MASSIVE Sumfest 2008, ridiculously photographic trip report.
Still tired and messed up from Sumfest and lack of sleep, the 4 of us hit the hotel restaurant for lunch. They talk about staying in Mobay that night and going out with us, even though it never happened because they live in Negril and had to go to a wake for ONeil's gramma who passed away. But they did stay for the day.
Here's Ashley and Nicholas at lunch.

We ate and during lunch Tia's man Oliver showed up to pick up some stuff Tia sent down with me for him. It was so great to see him again too, I love Oliver.
After lunch we got dressed in our swimsuits and the boys took us over to Dead End beach to swim and play some pool. It was neat swimming at the beach right where the planes land at the airport. I've seen this once on a video that Tia sent me a long time ago. I love airplanes.
Here's a shot of us playing pool.

Re: Jammie's MASSIVE Sumfest 2008, ridiculously photographic trip report.
After playing pool and swimming at the beach a while the boys take us back to the hotel. ONeil has to get home to Negril for the funeral stuff and I need a damn nap!! Ashley slept til evening, I couldn't really sleep much even though I wanted to. I don't really remember what we did in between evening and midnight when we finally decided to go out and eat and find something to do. Yes, we headed out into the streets at midnight for dinner. We ended up finding a place called Jolly Rogers where we had fried chicken for dinner. Our plan after this was to just walk until we found a place to party.
We didn't walk far when 2 Jamaican dudes approached us, so we asked them where we could go for some fun. They suggested Margaritaville and Pier 1, which neither of us like the idea. We told them we wanted a NO TOURIST party LOLOL this reminds me of when me and GG were in Boston asking around for clubs with no white people. Well these boys were on their way to a club downtown but they said its a badman club and we shouldn't go. But we said YES we wanted to go. They hesitated a lot before saying we could come.
Turned out to be one of the best nights we've had!!!! It was scary as hell going into the heart of downtown and seeing the action around this place. We actually stood at the door for about 10 minutes reconsidering and we endured a LOT of odd looks from the people in the streets outside the club. Finally we got the guts to pay the door and go inside.
The first hour was seriously uncomfortable....people stared at us, some girls walked by me and purposely brushed up against me as they passed, it was weird. And the boys we went in with kinda stayed back from us LOL. I think they were just surprised we even went. So I went and bought a Magnum and decided to get my party on. After the reggae switched the dancehall I started really moving and it was at that point that the people in there warmed up to our presence. They thought it was hilarious that I knew all the Jamaican dances and that we actually could sing the words to the songs. So the rest of the night was really good and the 2 boys that came with us probably ended up famous LOLOL.
Went home about 4am.

Re: Jammie's MASSIVE Sumfest 2008, ridiculously photographic trip report.
Saturday morning we slept in hard!! We still had another night of Sumfest ahead of us tonight. So we slept late, got up and had breakfast and decided to go downtown to shop. Ashley wanted some clothing. It was also pouring rain this day and I was praying it would stop for Tarrus Riley that night. Here's some shots of downtown.

Re: Jammie's MASSIVE Sumfest 2008, ridiculously photographic trip report.
After shopping we head back to the hotel and Cliff drops by. He was taking a friend to the airport and Ashley had left something in his car so he came to drop it off. I didn't know it at this time but it would be the last time I see Cliff
I called JMiss's old neighbor Devon since we had some time to kill. We headed out to Bogue Village to see him and hang in Miss's old neighborhood. It was neat being back there, I saw her other house just up the street from his place. We had a few drinks, met Devon's brother and sister in law who were also getting ready for Sumfest that night. They were really nice. Then it was time to go back so we could get ready too.
One thing that killed me this trip is the price difference in all the taxi rides. They see white people and think we don't know what we should pay. I did pretty well with negotiations but sometimes these guys were TOUGH!!! Like on the way to Devon's we paid $1200, on the way back we paid $500. Both were Route taxi's too. I kinda got sick of being taken advantage of. Like if I only had $1000 bill to pay they would say they have no change. It really pissed me off and I had to get more aggressive with my negotiating and turn down rides if they wouldn't come down to my price.

So....onward.
We went and at dinner in Mobay at The Native. I've eaten there once before and the coconut fish is TO DIE FOR!!!! So of course I had it again and Ashley had the coconut chicken which was just as great. I would recommend The Native to anyone, even though its a bit pricey.

This is a night shot of the view from our table at the restaurant.

Re: Jammie's MASSIVE Sumfest 2008, ridiculously photographic trip report.
On the way back from the restaurant we were getting har****ed by drivers to take us LOL. NONE of them would meet my price so we just kept walking until some guy called after us with my price!!! YAAY! He wasn't even a taxi driver LOL, just some guy with a really pimped out car who turned out to be the best ride ever for the rest of our trip!!!
OMG I can't believe I didn't take pics of his car. It was totally pimped out, had flashing lights all over it, rims, a big sign on his front window that read FULL CLIP and one on the back that said GANGSTA FOR LIFE. His name is George and he is the BEST!!! I have his number and we used him several times after that. He's cheap and super reliable!!!! If anyone wants his number for rides he said I could give it out.
He took us back to the hotel and agreed to come pick us up for Sumfest in an hour. Would you believe that when he dropped us at sumfest he wouldn't take ANY MONEY from me?? He gave us a free ride!!!! Now this is why I kept his number and used him the rest of the trip.

Where did you stay? Oh never mind, I'll have patience and wait for you to post in your trip report. Tanks in advance for the candle holder. Did you see him at the home or at the craft market? Oh never mind, I'll wait for the trip report. LMPO. Glad you could see Devon and my old stomping grounds.
