A NON-Jamaica Trip Report...

Hey y'all... I just returned from a TRIP but not to Jamaica...to DC. Most of you who know me know that I am in the process of deciding whether or not to move to the East Coast... and this trip was definitely a BIG motivation to do it. I have been considering a change of scenery for almost a year now.

So, although this was a trip for FUN, I did want to go to experience the cold winter weather and to spend more time in the city getting a feel for it. Lovin' it more and more everytime I go.

So... here goes....

My friend Cindy and I arrived late on Saturday night after a pretty turbulent flight from SFO to Dulles. We took a taxi, to the tune of $60 from the airport, but it was worth it just to get to where we needed to go as quickly as possible. When I go back in April, I'll be arriving earlier in the day and will be "metroing" it to JaSun's house!!

That night we had dinner at the West End restaurant in the Ritz Carlton. Pretty shishi, even for a snobby biatch like me, but I had the best glass of wine I've had in my life...actually TWO of the best glasses....

I highly recommend if you ever get the chance to try this wine, you do it... for you Zinfandel lovers out there...

So after a great dinner we headed back to our hotel, which was really nice in the middle of Georgetown and Dupont. Great location and the staff was amazing to us. My friend Cindy is a VIP with Marriott because she travels so much for work, so we were treated exceptionally well... although I don't think her "status" mattered.

Each night they hosted a happy hour in the Club Lounge on the 8th floor (our floor coincidentally!) for "Elite Club" members (we were, coincidentally!) so of course we took FULL advantage of free drinks and eats. Truth be told, I hardly bought a drink the entire time I was in DC which is no small feat considering that I drank myself STOOOOOOOOOPID... more to come!

Here is me in the snow! I've never actually been in the snow while it was falling... I kept yelling... I'm in a SNOWGLOBE!!!!! What a dumbass.

Re: A NON-Jamaica Trip Report...

We headed back to the Renaissance M Street and unpacked and decided to go to bed early... the earliest night we had during our entire stay... we turned in at the ripe young hour of 1:30am. Fortunately, we were on West Coast time, so even though I felt like a rockstar cuz I was never tired, I was sorta cheating time! I know I know...

The next day, Sunday, we headed out to the Eastern Market, which is a farmer's Market and there are also local artists who sell their wares. The Eastern market used to be housed in this beautiful old building that had a fire in it last year. So it is currently housed in a temporary location across the street and the building is scheduled to be re-opened sometime this summer... Here is a pic, although not one I took!

As we walked around I stopped at two booths. One was a booth with literally thousands of bead necklaces. One of them was HUGE and I asked the jewelry maker about it. He said it was a Nigerian wedding necklace. I was fascinated by this necklace, both because it was beautiful, but also because it was so freakin' HEAVY. I thought, dang... they don't play around when they get married in Nigeria. They want to feel the weight of the occassion!

This isn't the actual necklace, the one he had was actually bigger than this. Imagine coral stones like the one above the size of marshmallows... it was stunning...but I sure as heck wouldn't be able to wear it for longer than about 3 minutes!!

Then I wandered down the booths a little further and discovered an artist by the name of Michael Berman. I loved his work and in particular found a watercolor print for my bedroom (FINALLY!!!) that is called Lovers Entwined... AHEM! Gee, wonder why I wanted that....

This is it.

Re: A NON-Jamaica Trip Report...

Then we decided to kill some more time and head to Pentagon City for a little shopping at the Fashion Center mall... I went there with JaSun last summer so I remembered it. We killed a couple of hours there. I bought a lipstick from MAC that I LOVE and haven't stopped wearing since I bought it. You will see it on my in EVERY picture from here on out!

Later, we went to my favorite DC institution, Clyde's. They are all over the city, but my favorite one is at the Verizon Center. Last summer when I went there (twice) with JaSun, we met a really cool bartender named Damion. He totally treated us like rock stars so I went to see if he was still there!

He was still there, but wasn't working that night. So we decided to stay and have a drink and come back on Tuesday night when he was working...

But before we got very far through our drinks... we were spotted by the coolest gentlemen... and thus began a wild night!!!! (NOTE THE LIPSTICK! LMAO!!)

John F.

Ivan "Steel" H.

and my favorite, Nico "Sandoval, Sanders, Sanderberg DJ Habeeb"

Oh...and this is me and my girl, Cindy!

Re: A NON-Jamaica Trip Report...

So... after spending about an hour with these guys, drinking and carryin' on, they invite us to come to another bar with them that they know the owner of... I still have no clue where the hell that bar was... all I know is that it was called The Pug and it was next to a Popeye's Fried Chicken!

There were some real characters there and of course, us...

So at about 9:30, Nico's friend CJ comes in dressed to the nines and asking us if we want to go to a new club called Josephine's that their boy, David, owns and is just opening that night. I was all over it, but was dressed in jeans and sweater so I said we had to go change first.

Nico is cool enough to drive us back to the hotel (it was in the same area as the bar) so we can change into our "clubbin' clothes". And he comes up to the room to hang for a minute while we change. He almost didn't want to go to the club cuz he started watching (my favorite show) Brothers and Sisters... yes... I was supposed to meet this guy for real!

So we change and head off to the club. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera to the club so I have ZERO pictures. That is truly a tragedy because this club is BEAUTIFUL!!! For all you DCers on ETJ, you MUST go check it out. So cool.

At about 2:45 we roll out of the club, completely spent after a great night. THIS IS WHAT LIFE IS ABOUT... going places and meeting cool new people and having unexpected serendipitous adventures. SOOO cool.

After exchanging phone numbers we head home.

Re: A NON-Jamaica Trip Report...

The next day, Nico and I text and we to go out before I leave... yay!!!!!! We have already made plans for Monday night to meet up with my friend Stacy so we decide to get together on Tuesday or Wednesday.

So we meet up with my friend Stacy and do some walking around Georgetown then head BACK to Clyde's to see Damion.

Here we are AGAIN.

Re: A NON-Jamaica Trip Report...

After several rounds of drinks and the best tasting mystery drink... all I know is that it was pink and had Limoncello and a bunch of other stuff in it, we head off to a place called The Big Hunt that is supposed to be cool.....

When we get there, it is deserted and there is NO food...of course we are starving...so we walk around DC trying to find someplace open downtown to eat...

The only place we could find...

obviously...not this one, which is in Toronto!

All I can say is THANK YOU GOD for the dollar menu at 2am in the morning. There were 3 guys in there laughing hysterically at us because we were so stoooooopidly drunk... Stacy and I walked up to the counter and asked, "How many chicken mcnuggets can we get for 8 dollars?"... Ugh. Drinking is bad.

Re: A NON-Jamaica Trip Report...

The next day Tuesday is our pampering day... We go to the spa for facials and I get a haircut and I just want to say that I don't know anything, except for S-E-X that is better than going to the day spa!!!

That night we are totally beat and all we can handle is happy hour in the club lounge. So we go down there and end up meeting some really cool people who are staying in the hotel with us... Making more friends... but no pics of them!

Finally, Wednesday rolls around, our last full day and more importantly, night in DC. Nico and I had decided to meet at a restaurant of his choosing called DC Coast. I think we would have liked it if it was just me and him, but I could not do that in good conscience with my girl Cindy there, so we all met up. This restaurant was beautiful! Art Deco style with these beautiful HUGE mirrors...

I think we had about 4 bottles of champagne... wow. Champagne is the shiiizzzzzzzzz! Can you tell?? LOL.

Seriously hilarious night again... so much fun to hang out with cool peeps. We decided to meet up with the couple we met at our hotel and we all head back to the Renaissance for more drinks... that we most definitely did not need!

When we get there, the bar at the hotel is closed. So we head out to find something open. Of course, the only place open is a "Gentlemen's Club"... HA!!!!!!!!! Miss B's first strip club. What a freakin' experience that was! I was like... Who's life am I living right now???????

I am unconvinced that strip clubs are my cup of tea, but at least I can say I've finally been to one!!

So...we walk back to the hotel and it's nighty night DC. And no, I did not turn into a big ole **** y'all. My dignity is still intact!

THe next day, I went and had lunch with my girl JASUN!!! I was determined not to leave town without seeing her. It was only for an hour, but since I'm gonna be seein' her in April, I was fine with it.

DC looks real nice from the few street shots you took. I can't believe one night you were wearing the coat and hat and the next day, people are walking around sleeveless at the market! WTF??

Well...that picture isn't from while we were there... but the weather WAS like that while I was there. It was 68 and sunny one day, the next day freezing and snowing, the next day, raining!

Wild... and George Bush says there isn't an issue with Global Warming... whatever dumbass.

Anyway. It was a TOTAL blast girlie.... TOTAL.
