I want to go down the colorado through the grand canyon...
Oooh....well, I have been on the waiting list for a private launch for 11 years!! My trip finally comes up next summer!! I seriously can not wait!! This will be the ultimate trip.... 18 days winding through the Grand Canyon...a once in a life time event!!!!
What does one need when down things like this? Equipment, Physical needs, ailments...
What are the preprations I must do?
Well.. you need a raft, oars, frame, life jacket, and all the other miscellaneous gear (kitchen, food, beer, etc..). Then you need experience.... I have hundreds and hundreds of hours of rafting under mi belt. I use to be a guide many years ago and pretty much lived on the river. You have to know how to read water (currents), know what to do if you run into trouble (reaction) and rescue/first aid is great additional knowledge! We were fortunate in our group and had 7 nurses, an EMT, and one ER nurse!! I along with two others have experience in rescue. As far as physical needs...I must admit I was not prepared for this trip at all. The first day I became stuck on a rock and it took me over an hour to get it off. My arms were worthless afterwards..to where I ran the final rapid of the day and had a fren finish rowing mi to camp... I was hurting a bit but managed to get over it within a day.
Well compared to the White River in Arkansas both the Guadalupe and the river in Thailand... that I can't pronounce or spell... were boring...
Guadalupe you can go down in a tube... with the ice chest tied between you...
The one in Thailand was a raft... and so was the one in Arkansas...
In Thailand they had river guides but they put the ones with any experience on the outside of the raft to row... everyone else went in the center it was a level 4... Guadalupe is a level 5... but I don't know why... they keep the water so low that half the time you have to pick up your tube and carry it...
