Re: Kingston as a vacation spot

After all the "bad news" I've read about Kingston and warnings elsewhere telling me not to go I've decided to spend 3 nights in Kingston in August. I'll report back and tell everyone how it is. I've never been to Jamaica before so I know I'm in for a truly spectacular experience. I'll be in the Pegasus hotel which is expensive for me but much cheaper than the Hilton so I'll give a report on that as well. I'm excited about seeing Kingston.

What parts of town should I see first? Trench Town, Allman Town, Fletchers Land? Let me know.

Why not? What was his reasoning behind that? Although I'll be there for 3 nights for vacation it looks like out of all the "research" I've done on Jamaica about 80% of the sources say "don't go, it's too dangerous" while the other 20% including people on this forum and others I've talked to say "go and enjoy yourself."

I think I'll be mostly by myself so hopefully I can stay out of trouble.

What are some "must sees" in Kingston?

Here's my personal growing list:

National Heroes Park
Downtown Kingston
Port Royal
Bob Marley Museum
Devon House
United States Embassy
Island Grill (probably at Manley Airport)
KFC
Pizza Hut
National Art Gallery
University of West Indies
Jamaica National Stadium
Tinson Pen Airport
Emancipation Park

Re: Kingston as a vacation spot

Yes, Club Quad, I forgot about that place. I bet Juicy Patties is easy to find so I'll try there. Is it a hamburger place?

I never knew Mountain View Ave was a dangerous area. It looks like Jamaica National Stadium is off the list. Is it as bad an area as Allman Town or Trench Town? I remember seeing a map showing the "no-go" areas of Kingston so I have to find it again.

FM....I am telling you the best thing to do is find a local at your hotel or something to take you round to all those places....it will be worth it because then you will get to see everything you want and having a local with you will be to your benefit...jus my suggestion..

I disagree, Teach. I think JA KFC tastes a lot different then US KFC.

No, patties are not hamburgers. Try them. You'll see.

Speaking of locals I need to email Dickey to see if he'll be in Jamaica when I'm there.

I'll try them and even try to take pictures. Also I have to see what KFC is like in Jamaica. Is there a McDonald's anywhere in Jamaica? It looks like they don't have them from what I've seen searching through Google.

The only one I knew of was in MoBay and it closed about 3 or 4 years ago. I would've recommended that too. I think JA McDonalds burgers had sugar added to them or something. They were sweeter then any I've had anywhere else. Good; but different.
