Re: Kingston as a vacation spot
^^
With all the other food to be found in Jamaica it looks like very few people would miss the taste of McDonald's. Personally I love McDonald's and would eat it everyday if I didn't get fat from eating it a lot. |

Re: Kingston as a vacation spot
No way. I'll just walk in like I own the place. .....then probably get jumped or shot at. Actually I noticed on the map the National Heroes Park is right in the middle of all those places. Is it relatively safe to go there? Also I remember seeing somewhere that Orange Street is also a no-go area so how would one safely get from New Kingston to Downtown to see the harbour, downtown market and St William Grant Park? It also looks like Spanish Town Rd and Harbour Rd go through some rough areas according to the map. With all that said I have a feeling the Kingston people are 10 times tougher than people in the hoods of New York or south Central Los Angeles which I visited last year. Got to see Compton, Inglewood, Hawthorne and the Watts area. |

What did you think of your visit to South Central? LJ |

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I even took a picture in front of the "Welcome to Compton" sign. I drove all over Compton Blvd and Alondra Blvd, saw the Watts Towers, walked around that park. I had a feeling it was going to be a run down ghetto that looked almost unlivable but from driving around everything looked OK. ....when I took that picture some people in the apartment next to the street were yelling at each other and people were strolling around but obviously everything was fine. I wanted to stop and eat somewhere authentic but I only saw fast food places. I did end up going to Roscoes Chicken and Waffles in Long Beach which was mmm.mmm....good!!! |

I have to agree here. If you go wandering on your own, you are taking a big risk.

j/k.....I'll be sure to find someone to show me around. I'll be safer and learn a lot more about Kingston than I would on my own. Also put your post in red because I had a feeling you meant to. ![]() |

Re: Kingston as a vacation spot
FM when yuh leave again?? I forget. I know someone who'd drive you there but not too sure about the "showing around" part. He works full time.
