So you went thru Brown's Town? My husband went to high school there, I like it there, they have the best Grand Market night! When we lived in JA, we went there and Bass Odyssey was still playing at 9am!

It's all good, I survived!

No A/c is not bad especially in the country. We didn't have a/c or a fan cause it was always cool enough at night.

We only had a fan to blow the mosquitos off at night and the flys off during daytime naps.

Fans makes me sneeze anyway, and even here we don't have a/c on except if its over 85 and humid. (Rups nose is stuffy right away when its on)

Okay - JG & Swell - inform me on the "bug" situation....this is something a girl's GOT to be prepared for....I have heard stories about the mosquitos ????

Mosquitos can be pretty bad, and they ARE BIG!!!!
Make sure you have enough bug spray, I did find though the longer I was in JA the less they bothered me, just like the ticks. (We lived in country so lots in the fields!)
Rup used to say that I no longer had "farrin" blood so dem used to mi now!
They are bad at dusk and mornings, and worse the more into country you are.


Oh, and roaches are BIG also! Lizards also all over the place, so if things like that scare you, just be prepared.

Lots and lots of mosquito spray. Coils are good too. We used them all over the place. Can't do much about the flies. Ticks fall from the trees all around you. I must've seen thousands. Never had even one attach itself to me. Never saw any roaches. Lizards are everywhere and harmless. Saw a few little mice. Jomo thought they were adorable. I just screamed and ran. Hated when those things toyed with me while he was at work.

I had a couple on my feet, but you just have to pick it off and not let it get too far under your skin, then kill it, they don't just die from stepping on them them either. !!!

Nasty buggers.

I spent hours one day picking them off the dogs and smashing them with rocks. Any that fell off the trees while I was sitting there got smashed too. It was eerily fun.

I used to squeeze them between my fingernails, they were definatley dead then!

You know, if I read all this stuff before going, not sure I would want to.

Really, it's a beautiful place. Really! Just ignore us.
