Re: Montego Bay

Yea I'm thinking a little more high end than a few places you guys mentioned, although not outrageous. Somewhere that I could bring peeps who've never been to JA before and make a good impression. AI isn't as important as comfort and security. I'm going to start bringing groups of people down (first timers) for different events in JA. But Mobay happens to be the place I know the least about.

Re: Montego Bay

rose hall resort and royal decameron are all-inclusives that will make a good impression on anyone. rose hall has a shuttle that runs back and forth between the hotel and the "downtown" area. actually, the shuttle stops at all of the hotels that are past the airport. it shuttles people roundtrip from the hotels to margaritaville's which is in the main hub area. the royal decameron is a nice all-inclusive resort that's actually in the "downtown" area and it's within walking distance of shopping, nightlife, etc.

i didn't stay at the royal decameron so i can't vouch for its beach, but i know some folks who stayed there and they loved everything about it. like i said, i stayed at rose hall, and their beach is very nice. they also have a water park at the hotel (there are basically a few tame waterslides, pools, waterslides, swim-up bars, and a pool where you can float around the park).

margaritaville's gets a little too touristy, so on wednesday night, they have "wacky wednesdays" which is basically like a backyard jamaican party down the street from margaritaville's. we went with locals and had a good time. on friday night, we went to this joint called pier one (i think that's the name of it), but i'm not sure if that goes down every friday night.

anyway, if these hotels aren't snazzy enough for you, there's always the ritz...

Re: Montego Bay

LOLOL @ snazzy. I've actually stayed at the Ritz. Yes its beautiful but I couldn't afford to breathe the air there. That was one of the 2 trips I won actually but only our stay was covered, we didn't get the all inclusive plan with that.

Thanks for the info JG. I'm just in the research stages right now and unfortunately Mobay is where I've spent the LEAST amount of time in JA.

Re: Montego Bay

RDMB's "beach" is pretty nonexistent. It's wide enough for 2 lines of beach chairs -- but you can't swim in most of the area directly in front of the resort because there's a fence between the beach and the water (due to coral, rocks, etc.). Years ago, the fence wasn't there -- and you could jump into the water right there, but it was pretty rocky and scary. The only real "beach" is to the right of the resort -- again, not much of a beach to speak of with minimal space for chairs, etc.

Re: Montego Bay

Royal Decameron was very nice and decently priced. They have 2 different sites.....one is more expensive then the other. We stayed at the one on the hip strip. Stayed at Holiday Inn Sunspree which I really liked....decent prices most times; although sometimes they jack them up ridiculously high. And, I stayed in some nasty hotel that I can't even tell you the name of. I wouldn't even recommend that one for my dog.

Which are you talking about Lilly? The beach is pretty big at the one I stayed in. It stretched all the way from the restaurant area next to the pool to disco. It isn't exactly on the water in front of part of the hotel because of the retaining wall; but it's still a beach with sand. And, then, yah, the public Dead End Beach is on the other side of the hotel. That is a great place to party BTW most nights.

We loved this hotel and Montego Bay, went shopping on the hip strip loads of times, did a few tours and loved all of it, but what made this so so so so special for us were the Jamaican people, we have come back with such a warm feeling insidwe when we even think of Jamaica and its people.

The hotel was also great very clean and the staff never stopped working.

The bar staff well, there all great and we have kept in contact with quite a few, if anyone has any questions on the royal decameron please feel free to ask and ill do my best to answer
Hey now......I think Jen owes us a trip report.

Re: Montego Bay

We had a bit in common, so I talked to her a little. They were friends with one of hubby's friends until he got fired from Decameron. I could be wrong about the not going part. Not sure. Just thought I remembered that.
