Girl shot dead by teenage boy

A 14-YEAR-OLD schoolgirl was shot and killed yesterday at her home on Freeman's Lane, Kingston 13.

She has been identified as Shauna-Kay Brown, a student of Melrose Primary and Junior High.

In response, her alleged killer was chased and shot by a group of men in the nearby Chinese Cemetery on Waltham Park Road.

Reports are that the suspect, who is also 14 years old, has since been hospitalised under police guard.

"She just finished eat her breakfast and me left and go round a de back a de yard fe do some washing, when me hear a explosion," the child's mother, Dawn Fearon, explained.

She found her daughter lying on her back, with a bullet wound to the head. Shauna-Kay was later pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH).

ACCIDENT

Residents who spoke with The Gleaner shortly after, described the incident as an accident, resulting from carelessness.

They explained that the teenage boy had gone to a tenement yard on Freeman's Lane when on seeing Shauna-Kay, he displayed a hand gun which was without a magazine at the time.

Not knowing that a bullet was left in the breach, the youngster continued to show off the weapon and allegedly pulled the trigger, hitting Shauna-Kay in the head.

Shauna-Kay was looking forward to resume school in grade nine come September. It is also reported that she opted to stay home yesterday, because 'nothing much was happening school'.

Contacted yesterday Jennifer Lee, principal of the Melrose Primary and Junior High, described Shauna-Kay's death as heart-rending. She said whatever is happening in the community, is going to affect the school

DAMN!!! Whether it was an accident or NOT its still tragic.

I know there are a lot of people all for fire arms in the world but wouldn't stupid deaths like this be prevented if there were weapons control? And I mean not only in Jamaica but in the US, etc.
