Country still mourning death of Peter Cargill
The country continues to mourn the death of former national footballer Peter Cargill.
Mr. Cargill who was the coach of the Waterhouse football team died at the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital Saturday evening following a motor vehicle accident along the Discovery Bay main road.
According to information from the Constabulary Communication Network, the Toyota Hiace bus in which Cargill was travelling developed mechanical problems before crashing into a rock along the side of the road.
The bus was being driven by former Waterhouse player, Hugh 'Bingi' Blair.
It's understood that Cargill, Blair and assistant coach, Donald Sexias sustained injuries and were taken to hospital where Cargill died while undergoing treatment.
Peter Cargill and other members of the Waterhouse football club were on their way to Montego Bay for a premier league match which was slated to be played Sunday.
However the death of the former, 'Reggae Boy' has led the Jamaica Football Federation to postpone all premier league games.
41 year old Cargill was an integral part of the history making Reggae Boyz squad that qualified for the 1998 World Cup in France.
He played 84 times for Jamaica .
He also served as assistant national coach as well as head coach of the national under 23 squad.
Meanwhile President of the Jamaica Football Federation, Crenston Boxhill says Peter Cargill's death has rocked the Federation.
The Federation has called off all NPL matches scheduled for Sunday.
Cargill is the third Reggae Boy in 4 years to die as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.
On January 28, 2001, Steven 'Shorty' Malcolm died after the motor vehicle in which he was a passenger overturned.
Theodore Whitmore who owned the vehicle, Malcolm and a friend were returning from a match the two had played for the Reggae Boyz that night against Bulgaria at the National Stadium.
Last year, former national player Winston 'Twinny Bug' Anglin also died from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.
The car in which he was a passenger overturned and also smashed onto a rock killing the footballer instantly.
Four other footballers from western Jamaica also perished in that September 05 accident.
