Be lucky that you are afforded the luxury of government paid healthcare.....there are millions of people in the US, a big majority of those being senior citizens and children without healthcare in this country.

When my kids were little and I was supporting them by myself....I went about 5 years with no insurance at all because I couldn't afford the insurance the company I worked for offered. The $150.00 per paycheck for full family coverage would have meant that I couldn't pay my bills and buy food.....I had to take my chances that the girls didn't develop anything serious.

Of course it didn't work out that way....but I am not alone in this - as I said, just in the US alone there are millions of Americans without medical coverage and wouldn't even begin to know what to do if they had to pay for school on top of that.

Re: Birth papers and school in Jamaica

Fair enough Luv. But would the USA prevent your children from going to school because you couldn't afford medical bills?

That's the part about this whole story that bugs the crap outta me.

No, they wouldn't prevent them from going to school....however, if the parents cannot provide a childs shot record to show that their children have had their immunizations & they are current......they cannot enroll them in school @ all until the shots are given to the child or the proper paperwork is received.

Re: Birth papers and school in Jamaica

The bad thing here too is that those who are trying to work and make a decent living, often make too much money to qualify for Medicaid for their children even if they have no medical insurance at all......it's a catch 22 so to speak!

1) don't work...get food stamps and medicaid for healthcare and qualify for government assistance

or

2) work and try to get ahead.....left out in the cold - with no help in sight

Trust me....been there, done that!
