Re: Why Are Jamaicans Racist Towards Black People And African Culture?
I believe it's a huge problem there...I just didn't encounter it on my trip in regards to Africans. But if the attitude is that strong here in Calgary...it's got to exist in Jamaica to. I'm also sure on further visits I will encounter it at some point!
Re: Why Are Jamaicans Racist Towards Black People And African Culture?
The only experience I can speak to as far as Jamaica and Jamaicans go, which I've also heard to be true from my black friends who attended Howard and Morehouse Universities here in the US, is that there seems to be more "classism" as opposed to "racism". I experienced this in Ja from Jamaicans who lived in larger cities... the term I think they used was people being from the "country" being poorer, uneducated... but I didn't really see it as an issue of race as much as "class"...
The same is true of EVERY group of people though, so I guess I don't really understand the purpose of this thread. It's there. What is there really to talk about? Some people will have experienced it, others have not... What is the purpose of this thread... just to talk about different experiences?

Yah....that is precisely what I objected to before... Fly By threads with no purpose other than to press an offensive (albeit real) issue with a group that he hasn't established any trust or rapport with...

hmmm....well....so be it....we gave him the opportunity to come in and discuss what his issue was and he hasn;t said anything yet...So I don't know...but in any event, I learned some things.
And you are right about the class thing....People in the TOWN areas I have seen normally view themselves better than people from the country..
Re: Why Are Jamaicans Racist Towards Black People And African Culture?
I am not saying that Jamaica is the only centre of black-on-black racial hatred, but that, as a black majority society, it is the worst place in the world for black-on-black racism. The great majority of Jamaicans harbour a generalized hatred towards black people and African culture.
You should read my original posts in order to understand what I am talking about.

My apologies but your posts are WAY too long for me to focus on.

I want people to come onto this thread and talk about their experiences with black-on-black racism in Jamaica.
Of course I can't speak for everyone but as far as I can see, most of the black people on the forum have already posted in one of your threads. So it looks to me like not many have experienced any.

Interesting Mr Walker!....... you spend so much time just looking at this thread, I pose a direct and relevent question and you simply watch the thread and walk away.....what is your real agenda here? and why not answer my question, do I not fit your stereotype of "Jamaicans" ???........dont let my signature intimidate you now!!
