Ah, but I think this is a little different. Getting in a taxi and leaving a resort in Mobay or Ochi is not the same as leaving Trelawny Stadium. Those tourists you mention aren't staying in Kingston. World cup visitors will view a different level of "despair" wouldn't you agree?

Maybe, maybe not, Urban. One of today's editorials talked about the closing of roads, the redirecting of traffic, that kind of thing. Talking about buses too and from the resorts and hotels, carpooling, etc. I got the impression they were going to truly guide where people could go or couldn't.

Oh I'm sure they will... if I were the local gov't I sure as hell would. That wasn't really the point of my post though.

Re: An interesting view

Note:
The author, Delroy Chuck is a Member of Parliament and senior member of the Opposition party (e.g. Democrat-Senator). There has been allot of talk about the $600-$650 million dollars that the government is spending and going to spend to clean up areas around the cricket venues that are not normal tourist attractions. Add to this the fact that this is an election year and the opposition party suspects that an election might be called either before or after the Cricket World Cup. You will also hear complaints by the same persons that the government has already spent too much on the World Cup. Sound confusing, it’s all politics.
So everybody is complaining about the city because (1) they want some of the money, (2) politicians love doom and despair. Jamaicans are still last minute shoppers anyway, so watch for a change in attitude come mid-February. Every city that has hosted a world cup has had similar complaints (too expensive and not prepared).

Never said it wasn't politics, Samba.

Do you read the Gleaner regularly? Similar complaints appear almost every day.

I always find it funny that cities "find" the money when they need to clean up for camera crews. One thing that always makes me mad about Olympics and such.

Re: An interesting view

I went past the stadium in Falmouth and honestly if people are going to bussed in and what not they will never see Falmouth the city/town because it is far enough away from the centre, you dont even see the clock from the main road now - so "cleaning up" may not happen anyway. I did notice it was much cleaner all around than I remembered.

I had been in Falmouth a few times last year. Didn't think it looked all that bad.

That stadium made me mad already. All those bright lights dimmed the view in the luminous lagoon when we went.

Re: An interesting view

Not sure if the road from airport to falmouth will be ready in time - they should have done that part first cause its the part tourists see first when they come out of the airport!~

Road from Falmouth to Ochi is great - 1 likkle piece still the have to do - then from Ochi into St Mary is still so bad
