Dear Friends.
I am sorry to have to bring you all some very bad news. It is my very sad duty to inform everyone of the passing of "Ras" David Chapman.
Dave was involved in a car accident a couple of weeks ago and suffered serious head and internal injuries when his car left the road and hit a tree. The cause of the accident is not known but no other persons were involved.
We believe the most likely cause was that Dave lost control while trying to avoid a deer or other animal on the road near his home. David never regained conciousness after the accident and a decision was taken last Thursday to switch off his life support machine.
David was a very dear friend and colleague who touched the hearts of all who knew him. His warmth, sincerity and sense of humour will be very sadly missed by all.
I know David loved this site. He often used to speak of the characters here and I know he was especially fond of Dreamer,Urban, Wahoo and Jancan.
Although I realise how impossible this is, I know that David would not want us to be sad. He was totally committed to his Rastafarian religion and always saw a silver lining to every dark cloud. I for one feel very privileged to have been his friend and will very much miss his calm reasoning and words of strength and encouragement in difficult times.
David leaves behind his elderly Father and his dog Shiloh.

This is indeed a tragic event; etj will miss this man terribly. RD was one of those newbies who fall into their niche immediately... his honesty, forthrightness, and sense of humour endeared him to the members, new and old.

Richard, if you return to read this thread at all, thank you very, very much for taking the time to pass this news on. RD's last post was on June 17th, and when a well-loved member just dissappears like that we are always left wondering. In the somewhat detatched world of the internet friendships can form, and yet in situations like this it's hard to hear the news.

I feel a distinct sense of loss today. As many here know, Ras David and I hit it off due to a great number of things we had in common. Besides the obvious love of reggae music and all things Jamaican, we shared ethnicity, grew up in the same country (England), and were almost the same age (he was 3 years my senior). Many, many times I'd be reading through a thread and be just about to post a reply, when I'd see he alread posted exactly what I was about to say, almost word for word. I almost immediately took it for granted that we would link up on one of my visits back to the UK.

Dave I was serious about that pint. Next time I come home I'll have it without you.

Me too......I started crying when I read that.....can't believe its real.....was just hoping he was having computer trouble or something....figured he would be back in a few days with some story about dropping his computer down the stairs again......I think I am still in denial about it....how can this be?

I don't know but suddenly I'm having a bad day. I'll probably be kinda quiet today.
