Ew! Scientists Think Mars Smells Like...
...rotten eggs or worse. Based on the data NASA is receiving from the two Mars Exploration Rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, scientists speculate in very un-scientific terms that Mars stinks to high heaven, reports Space.com.

The odor comes from the red planet's very high concentration of sulfur. On Mars, the chemical form of sulfur appears to be in magnesium, iron, and other sulfate salts. Don't forget the Mars sky, which is rich in carbon dioxide. Mix that chemical ****tail together and the result just plain reeks to the human nose.
On the very edge of space, there are mysterious clouds that glow a brilliant blue. What ARE they?
Jim Garvin, NASA's lead scientist for Mars and lunar exploration in Washington, D.C., likens the odor to volcanic areas on Earth. He acknowledged that when he visits such places, he finds the smell to be cleansing. "I don't know. It may stink in the eye of the smelling beholder," he told SPACE.com. Or his nose. But figuring out how Mars smells and the effect it would have on any human explorers is important. Unpleasant odors can do more than fill us with disgust or generate a headache; they can also be explosive or poisonous.
