Re: New cervical cancer vaccine here

We had an announcment that it would be available on 18 Jul 2006 and it was available that fall. CBC announced that in the US it was June 2006.
I had read on the news that it $375.00 US dollars for the vaccine!
So if it wasn't offered for free in the schools, how could most afford it?
Do you have to pay for it now?

Yes in America everyone is responsible for their own health care coverage....if you are lucky enough to have health insurance cause you can afford it or your job provides it..then the vaccine is covered....same as all other vaccines

Re: New cervical cancer vaccine here

You mean in the US? I just say that because America includes NA (Canada, US, and Mexico) and Souther America.
I know here in Canada we have to pay for some vaccines, but most are covered, and some are only available if you match up with certain risk factors.
So the kids don't get vaccines in schools - or not unless the parents pay for it?
Gee I sure hope we don't lose what we have for healthcare.

I do not know if the availability of that drug in Jamaica is a good thing, for Jamaicans.

Re: New cervical cancer vaccine here

We may lose what we have down the road - I really hope not. Our healthcare is detiorating. It is still one of the best in the world - and we pay high taxes for it - I am very grateful - I just hope it doesn't keep going the way it is.
Privatization has started and is common in cities - paying user fees for the "convenience" of the clinic being in your community.
One of my fav things about Canadian government has always been the way they run the healthcare systems so it is scary to see it going that way.
