How to Manage your Time More Efficiently

First let us look at the definition of multi-tasking.

To focus your awareness in more than one place at the same time is called multi-tasking. One is basically splitting their brain into fragments, where each fragment tries to focus on a different task. We multi-task every day and don't even know it, and many times we run out of time or the quality of our work suffers. Studies have shown that multi-tasking is less efficient than if we prioritized or made schedules.
Think of your brain as a computer's cpu; focusing on different tasks will increase work load and the time it takes to accomplish. Whereas if the cpu had only one task to accomplish, it would take less effort and be completed quicker. After saying that, our brains are not a cpu and to make errors is to be human. So here is domo's tips for time management:

Domo's Flexible Time Management

1. Make a list of tasks that you have to accomplish and list the dates they have to be completed.

2. The earlier dates take priority and should be color coded with red. Other tasks take other colors depending on their priorities also.

3. The closer you get to a task's completion date, the more of a priority it becomes. Change colors around to adjust priorities. When a task is completed, the next one becomes the priority, or if completion dates get pushed back, adjust tasks to meet the new schedule.

4. After tasks are set, schedule everything else around them. For example, lunch, dinner, breaks and personal time.

This approach may or may not suit you because all people are different and not everyone prefers to maximize their time. Time is very precious because once you lose it, you can't get it back. You can use day runners, PDAs or calenders for this. Good luck!

I like that, Domo.

Now, if only I can find that darn PDA or the day runner beneath all that pile of garbage strewn across my desk and on the floor.

Fortunately I don't have a pile. What I do have is a bunch of papers and planners with pink heart stickers, princess stickers and I love daddy stickers ALL OVER THEM. I think I even have stickers on my jeans of princess toadstool.

On a serious note, I am very organized and am often on top of the ball as far as multitasking is concerned. But if I leave my organization and time management to a daily planner or a PDA i would never get anything done.
Its much easier for me to keep it all in my head.

My strategy is to work really hard Monday and Tuesday, then surf the net the rest of the week. Works for me.

Re: How to Manage your Time More Efficiently

Before getting into psychology, I did some organizational management courses and they really helped. Let's say I know how to be organized but like Jamcan, it's easy just to space out and surf the net all week long while the work piles up. LMAO. JC you kill me.

OMG this is sooooooooo adorable Domo!!!!

And yes, I am an organization FREAK...almost to a fault. Certain mods have yelled at me before because I want duplicate threads merged, why should that bother me??

I am a deadline girl so I usually don't get things done ahead of time, I work better under pressure. I will wait til I HAVE to do it and it always gets done. I have calendars all over the place as well as my Outlook calendar at home and work. Its always full of stuff with reminders that pop up every day.
