How to choose a new Cooking Range
Forgive me..I am only a man.
I need to purchase a new stove and I thought it best to solicit the opinion of the fairer sex and those who know more about it than I do....
My only criterion: It must be electric.
- What's the best brand on the (US) market?
- How important is the self-cleaning oven feature?
- Does anyone really use the warmer on the stove?
- What brand or feature do I NOT want to have?
- Which is better, those swirly metal burners or the glass-top ones?

Not sure about brands, I've never bought a new stove.
How important is the self-cleaning oven feature?
Unless you're a slob, self clean isn't REALLY important but its nice to have every couple years. My oven never gets dirty.
Does anyone really use the warmer on the stove?
I totally use the warmer, especially for big holiday dinners. My stove even has a warmer for the drawer below where you can store lots of food (while preparing holiday dinners I suppose)
What brand or feature do I NOT want to have?
Not sure.

Go for the cooktop kind, definitely. Easy to clean, there's nothing more disgusting than people's stoves with food and run-over, burnt on liquid under the coils.

Re: How to choose a new Cooking Range
Thank you Both, for the input.
Though not often, I would like to know that I can throw in a chicken (NO TURKEY) or a cake and not feel that it wil be so grungy after I am done.
Also, I kinda like the glass-tops better. they look great but I am not sure about how durable they are.

From experience on the glass-tops.....they are sufficiently durable. They don't scratch, are a breeze to clean. They come with special cook-top cleaner that you just rub on, wipe off and good as new (for after your pot runs over or whatever.)

After using the cleaner, you're supposed to buff the streaks away with a dry paper towl.

Re: How to choose a new Cooking Range
I went into the store to look at some yesterday but didnt exactly know what to look for.
The surprising and outrageous thing I realize though is that you have to purchase the electrical plug separately!!!.
And based on the new fire codes, I have to have a special grounding in my house to accomodate the new plug.
Gosh!
Now I will have to put on mi electrician cap.

Oh, the electrical know-how is not an issue. Its just the fact that when I spend my $$$$,I expect to get my money's worth without any extra work.

And plezzze..No sly comments about that statement.
I realize, it can be misinterpreted.

Re: How to choose a new Cooking Range
Well no one else has replied here yet. But for me, my last 2 houses have had the cooktop and I much prefer it.
