Exclamation Mad Cow Disease hits the USA

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/12/23/mad.cow/index.html

This article mentions that mad cow disease is not known to spread via muscular tissue. I wonder if that is true. The article goes on to mention that mad cow disease is usually spread by consuming brain and nerve tissue. I guess what I am wondering is how safe our beef industry is at this point! Does anyone have any expertise in this subject?

I have to say, I'm a little afraid to eat hamburgers or purchase beef at the market now.

I wouldn't worry about it KC....as you probably know Canada's already gone through this recently. It all turned out fine....it's one in a million. Plus I heard that cow came from Canada anyways. Its our fault!

Dont worry, 90% of the burger is GM food anyway. If the meat dont get you something else will.

Re: Mad Cow Disease hits the USA

Agreed, not that scary.....it would be more scary if cows bred like rats....wildfire! But livestock is traceable and they can figure out where it all came from so I'm not gonna stop BBQ-ing because of it!

Re: Mad Cow Disease hits the USA

Before this happened, I was considering cutting beef from my diet and this scare may cause me to do just that...I don't know just yet. i'm listening to a news report on it right now.

My Dad, a pseudo vegetarian, seemed almost excited about the scare. He'd be elated if Americans never ate meat again. Well sometimes I get annoyed against those overzealous vegans that say we should not even wear animal hide of any kind. To that I say, well where do we draw the line? What are we gonna start campaigning against next, eating? We don't wanna hurt the plants feelings (literally), do we? Like plants have feelings to, eh? What would we eat then??

Re: Mad Cow Disease hits the USA

well even before the the mad cow scare, I knew people who were saying red meat was not good for ones health. I thought it was just a matter of personal preference.

I would love to "meat" your psuedo vegan father(no pun intended ) and ask him why do they kill living plants then and eat as food, since most view it as inhumane to eat animal carcasses?

Should we all not be eating our selves till the entire human race is null and void of our own species or we can eat dust like the serpents.

Re: Mad Cow Disease hits the USA

I see your point, KC. One of the reasons it is said that red meat is not that good for you is for one it takes 3 DAYS for our bodies to fully digest beef and two, red meat contains free radicals, agents that catalyze the aging process.

If you ever read that yearly article in Essence magazine about women that defy age (with mindblowing photos of some women that look 10-30 years younger than their biological age), one of the most frequent responses they share about how they stay young is "I don't eat red meat". Can you believe the aging process is only 30% biological and 70% LIFESTYLE?? This should give us all hope, it's all about the choices we make that effect our health and appearance significantly.

KC, maybe this topic should be moved to the Health and Fitness category or to the In Da News category?
