Green Card makes me Red...They have a nerve!!!
OK, So I am mad again.
Can you believe this crap???
US Immigration has now imposed a mandate that all female immigrants between the ages of 11 and 26 who are applying for US residency, are now REQUIRED to have the HPV vaccine.
USCIS Changes Vaccination Requirements To Adjust Status To Legal Permanent Resident
While I fully support the drive to reduce and prevent the spread of this sexually transmitted disease which causes genital warts and cervical cancer in women, the insult is that it is not a requirement for the general population of natural born US citizens.
How do you feel about this?
Do you think that anyone should be REQUIRED to take vaccination against any sexually transmitted disease?
Do you think that the USCIS is exhibiting discrimination to this effect?

No its not a requirement but I'm not sure about the USA but in Canada there are commercials that air all the time about getting your daughters vaccinated. I think its a good thing.
So I don't get why its a big deal. Every country has medical admission requirements. And the more people who are vaccinated the better chance HPV will stay under control. The percentage of women who contract HPV is EXTREMELY high....even I've had it. And I woulda rather had a vaccination available to me than to undergo all the biopsy's that I had to because of it.
Its a precaution.

You don't, huh?
How would you feel if you were told that in order to go to Jamaica, you are required to do an AIDS test, but it is not a requirement for the locals?
The problem is not the vaccine. The issue is the appearance of discrimination against immigrants.
We are not talking about some rare flu virus that has not yet reached the US.

Most healthcare providers, HMOs etc, are requiring it for girls in the same age range now too... i think in the USA it's becoming a standard immunization... relax Alex.

No, it is not, MissB.
I can not get into details, but I am certain of that. And Yes, Most health service providers are footing teh bill to have the vaccination done.
Several States as well as the Federal government have tried and had it shot down in the Supreme courts as an invasion of personal privacy.
At last count...Approximately 20 million Americans are currently infected with HPV, and another 6.2 million people become newly infected each year. At least 50% of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives.
Just to clear the air, I fully support the move to emcourage women of that age to be vaccinated; I just belive that it should be ALL for ONE, and One for ALL.

I would do it no question, if it was a requirement. All countries are entitled. Its not like HPV makes you look bad or anything.....its not like AIDS or HIV. I don't think its discriminating at all.....
That would be like me whining that I can't bring my dog to Jamaica because Jamaica doesn't have rabies and Canada does.

Because of his sickle cell, Jomo was REQUIRED to get the Pneumovax as part of his process. I didn't take it as anything more then looking out for his welfare.

Ooops!
Too much details.
There are however at least 40 different strains of HPV, ranging from low risk (genital warts) to high risk (cervical cancer).
Most of them, usually clear themselves up after a couple of years.
The big ine is the cervical cancer strain.

Re: Green Card makes me Red...They have a nerve!!!
LOLOL well I don't have WARTS!!!!!!!!!! Anyways HPV is overly common and its not something I'd be embarrassed about. And it goes away on its own. The screening programs are just a precaution and you stay on it long after its gone.

But, it should be his choice. It wasn't. Hell, if we protected him from any little thing that may weaken his systems and cause him to lapse into an episode, he'd be living in a bubble.
