Cancer
So, my family is riddled with this killer right now....
I have an aunt that has a tumor in her head...
and another aunt that has stomach cancer....
And now my mom has these holes... or depressions in her skull... that along with some other symptoms has me thinking she has mutliple myeloma... (yes I researched it)
How many of you have problems with this in your families? How do you cope with it?

Re: Cancer
Quite honestly its not a big factor in our family. My gramma had breast cancer some years back and lost one breast from it. I think the biggest effect it had on her was mental....she always talks about being a cancer patient still.
But other than that I'd have to say our family is fortunate.

Re: Cancer
GG I know the feeling... I am terrified to go to the doctor and get tested for fear of what they might find...
Sometimes I think i would rather NOT know...

Re: Cancer
Ok, here goes....
My grandpa has prostate cancer and has stopped all treatment. He was recently in the hospital with a Pulmonary embolism. He and my Grandma have been on again off again close to death. Right now, they are doing as well as can be expected.
As for Cancer have had quite a bit of experience with it...in the family and in my work.
One of my sisters had emergency brain surgery and is still having seizures and no one knows why.
My baby sister was assaulted trying to keep a friend safe, ended up with a concussion and now has "something else abnormal" on her CT scan.
and this is just the tip of the iceberg...
My wonderful Mother (I really mean this...) often calls me with the medical advice for all our family and our friends. I don't mind (it is the least I can do) but I do wish I could do more.

Re: Cancer
My paternal Grandfather died of a brain tumour at 63. I barely knew him--I was 4. My maternal Grandad died of cancer a few years ago, but he was in his late 70s. Luckily nobody in my immediate family since has had any (touch wood), so coping isn't really an issue. My co-worker has prostate cancer... that's kind of scary. I'm at the age where they are supposed to start checking for that. (shut-up D-Rock and JamCan, no I won't enjoy it)

Re: Cancer
To me there are illnesses that bring us all together... like cancer, heart disease, etc...
We are all suseptible regardless of race, religion or creed....

That is true of illness... actual any awful misfortune will help to bind people and families together.
I often think it sad that there are so many people that I ONLY see at funerals. Everytime someone dies, we look at each other and say "we should get together" but we know that we'll only see each other at the next one.
