Taught a 5th grade class today, Social Studies, and while discussing the Civil War a white male student made a comment on how racism exist. Very homogenious child. He went on to comment that the black couldn't get their education because of the oppression of the white people. (Paraphrased)
Mark you, there is only 1 black 5th grader in the class apart from me. Many hispanics and whites. So after reaching the area in the Chapter about how African-Americans (blacks), were now able to go to school under the apprenticeship program, another white male student, raised his hand and said...." Miss, that means I am so lucky to be in class with Tyrone!" , (the black student) His comment sparked interest in my mind and in the minds of these 5th graders. The other teacher with me in class was dumbstroke for a moment (she's white too) and said...."hmm yes, we are grateful."
It is amazing how the small mind of a child excels and is open to the world, the past and the present issues. I was really impressed by my 5th grade class. Just thought I would share this.
So this is what I learnt today... that little children are VERY aware on racial issues, serrogation, the black history and what we went through during slavery.
What did you learn today?

Re: What did you learn today? (hmmm...interesting)
I learned today that some people really aren't who you think they are.
I work with a guy I consider a pretty good friend, have worked with him the last 2 1/2 years. Last week I overheard him telling someone he has had a girlfriend for the past 9 months yet nobody at work knew it. So surprised I went and mentioned it to another coworker who's also a good friend of his.
Well when it came out that I told someone the dude FLIPS out on her, then me! So of course I FREAK on him back cause he always got his nose up in everybody's business...like yesterday he's giving me some STUPID ASS fatherly advice about my trip to Florida this weekend. Like don't bring anything extra back, blah blah blah. As if thats not rude for him to say that ****. But I take it and laugh it off, now he freaks over something simple as this?? I told him "don't flatter yourself, we don't talk about you all the time, you're not that important. And what's your problem? Your girl's not good enough for you to even mention in passing??? Maybe she'd have second thoughts if she knew it was that big an issue!"
Jerk. Man oh man is he gonna get service with a f**king smile tomorrow. Some friend.

I learned today, that I must listen to that little inner voice in my head that tells me to back up the data on my home PC and get a UPS.

what i learned today woz ;if you doing diy don't ask the hubby to help you ,boy did he push my patience to the highest limits lol.well i was putting some wooden flooring down in my little lads bedroom once that was finnished, done all by ones self after him enjoying doing what he loves most watching sport on t.v all day,all i had left to do was put the beading around the edges of the skirting .when he finnaly comes upstairs im plodding along nicely nailing down the beading and him giving me his usual but not appreciated advice on how to do this task .as im hammering away he's totally doing my head in and if i hammered my finger once with the hammer i done it a hundred times the moral of my story is i learned how to lovingly smile at him and say thankyou my dear now if you don't get out of the room i'm gonna throw the hammer at you maybe there were a few more words added to that sentence as you would proberebly imagine.
