I have a half-brother who lives in Jamaica, but I always wonder why? We are of eastern Euro origin and I wonder how well are whites accepted? + is the standard of life good? is it cheap to live there?

It's beautiful and peaceful and if you can make it work, why not?

Beautiful - From what I've heard, absolutely.

Peaceful - Hasn't Jamaica been voted the murder capital of the world? Crime is very bad generally there.

How about the cost of living?

And btw..is there like a Jamaican 411..that lists people who live there etc

Peaceful is relative anywhere you live. Every place has it's good and bad.

Cost of living is relative too. I don't know about you; but it's not exactly cheap to live where I live.

As far as the 411, I have no clue. I haven't come across anything like that really.

Well I am an adventurous person, I love travel. If I could, I would live in every nation for at least 2-4months.

Why not live in Jamaica? Have you ever asked this person why they choose to live here?

I choose to live here because my dh was born and raised here and wanted to come back a yard...so a yard we came.

Whites are easily accepted...just don't be a jackass and act like you're better than anyone else because you are white. That wont' fly.

Standard of living? We can easily recreate our US lifestyle here if we chose to...we choose not to..because when we the states, we left that bull**** behind. I hate Mega Mart..too much like Wally World and Sams Club. Give me WestGate or the chinese grocer.

You ask if it's cheap to live here...well..I don't know how to answer that because I personally think it's cheap but talk to someone who makes $4K-$10K a week and they will tell you how expensive is. It's all relative to income and lifestyle.

With regards to whether or not "Whites are accepted" - the motto of the Country is Out of Many One People.

There are many different nationalities living quite happily and peacefully side by side on the island. You will not be a novelty.

No but you can type in jamaica in wiki to see the demographics. Its not about who is the majority there tho. Its about the people and they are very welcoming

-freezing my ass off
-Being taxed to death in CT, high cost of living
-The east coast rat race
-The presidents
-Swimming in 60 degree water for 2 months only
-Scraping ice, shovelling snow, paying plowing bills for4-5 months

-The lousy ginger ale

LOL You talk about taxes...GCT is 16.5%.

Pay is low, low, low, which I why we are self employed business owners and have no problem making living. And if you aren't a JA citizen or married to a JA citizen, getting a job here isn't all that easy.

It's hotter than hell everyday, all day, but thank God the sun goes down and it does cool off and it's always cooler in the mountains.

I take the good with the bad and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Been the states all my life and this is home. This where I will be for the rest of my life..they will have to drag my ass off this rock. LOL
