Forum Comparisons

I just wanted to make a thread about the typed of forums I've oberved. So far I've seen 3 different types and out of all of them... I must say I see this site in a different more positive light.

Forum 1: This forum is a "private" one where by you can post pretty much anthing you want. It even has a specific section alotted for swearing & slackness. Now I frequently hear a lot of people on this forum say they want freedon of speech and to be able to say whatever they feel like... well forum #1 is it for sure but guess what? I is ALWAYS DEAD. There are rarely more than 1 or 2 members on at a time, and good discussions do not exist.

Forum 2: It is a higher traffic forum, it's a great site from what I can see but, it is heavily controled. There are more moderators watching for repeat threads, the posts and types of conversations that are being carried etc. They are very organised in terms of they types of posts they allow in certain places. Although a lot more strict than forum number one and even ETJ ... people have great conversations and their members are quite lively and active members of that community as opposed to forum #1.

Now ETJ. I think members here don't realise just HOW LIBERAL this site is. Certain threads like the Sound Clash, Certified Post Whores, etc.. they wouldn't really be allowed on forum # 2 (from what I've observed), on forum #1 maybe but then nobody even posts there really. I think that what the Admin & the moderators try to do is let people have their fun BUT... this site isn't specifically about 1 thing. Like some forums are specifically about music, or cars, or fashion, or whatever... it is easy to loose focus and labba labba. They allow it on ETJ a lot... but I think what ADMIN & the MOD team are trying to convey is this:

Have lots of fun, post and enjoy your time here BUT let's not allow LIBERTY to ruin the site....

I wanna say that I enjoy ETJ the way it is or else I wouldn't have stayed this long. There are other Jamaican forums out there and I've looked at them too, but the one thing I LOVE about ETJ is the closeness of our family. Never once was it difficult for me to make friends here....everyone's so open and friendly.

I'll tell you a secret, I was a member of another forum for a minute and when I finally posted that I was going to JA and tried to get in on all the members who wanted to meet up in JA....I got NO response. To me, that just ain't family. Why would I wanna have a beer with them? On ETJ even if I can't make it to JA they raise thier glasses to me and send me a picture of it too! This is why I love you guys so much!

I just observed a lot here and wanted to see what it was like else where. There are actually a couple of JAMAICAN forums I could've compared to ETJ but I guess I picked the closest one. I've registered for a couple of forums but I only post here regularily so far. #2 is OK.... but I got asked not to use fancy fonts or colours we all know BG's issues with colour and fonts right? LOL Anyway #1 is supposed to be this SUPER LIBERAL forum that all these people that complain about ETJ want yet, even though some ETJ members are also members there... no one hardly traffics that spot. WHY? Cuz it's BORING and what do people talk about? NOTHING! Maybe it could be OK if people would have conversations but GEEZ.

Anyway, I still think that it SUX that Snikky ain't here by the way, I just think I see where D & Mod team are coming from because I actually saw that they aren't as nit picky as they COULD be if they chose to be.

Yeah ETJ's kriss.. one thing we should look at, which I know you guys HAVE is the fighting. I know I am combatitive by nature, and can have heated debates... and I was battling a FAKE battle with Psued in the sound clash thread.... but I see people attacking each other on here seriously.... that ain't right. So I guess they're just trying to get certain "out of whack" thing under control here as the site grows.

Now THAT'S a huge issue for you! We make fun of ya but we'd NEVER tell you to stop cause its in your nature to annoy us with your font-ness! LOL.

I agree with you on the fighting things too, it never used to be that way, people said what they wanna say but no one's ever been that political til now. People really just wanna stir things up round here and I think that's whats changing this board.

Yeah but don't forget too.. this is a text medium right? It's not the phone or IN PERSON type of deal to so things can get easily misconstrued and some people take it personally others don't.

Well bashment they dont want it in caribyard. I see you found that out and they dont want no slackness either. So you are right, because if you want that then ETJ would be the better forum for you and your character.

They don't want what? Besides I wasn't SLAMMING the site I was comparing all SITE and I didn't call names for a reason! I like that site and I'm on it now! I am saying that people complain about this site and not being able to speak their mind BUT ETJ is quite liberal in comparison to other site that I've seen. CaribYard isn't the ONLY one I've been on and I could list more but I didn't for a reason!

Know yourself when you address me please becuase I was comparing sites NOT BASHING!

Good girl, this just proves to all the whinners and complainers about....de site noh de same noh more....blah blah blah....needs clean up....blah blah blah. This shows that we have a GEM here some don't want to see that just want to focus on the NEGATIVES of the site, it might not be perfect but it is home away from home. It is making friendships, it is coming here to get a good belly laff, it is getting your mind challeged with some really good intriguing topics, it is getting encouragement/advice when you need it, it is learning about Jamaica and our culture!!!!

You know when Kitten was new on this site I don't think I did anything to make her feel uncomfortable. She certainly hasn't returned the favour.

Anyway Luv.... Dat mi uh seh! You know.... I was rougher on the 1st forum and there are people on here from there.. so I don't know where this one is coming from. I was comparing ALL forums and as any educated person would do.... you have to have at least 3 examples other wise, what are you really comparing? I'll say this much:

I think ETJ is a WICKED site... and Forum #2 I have enjoyed thus far. I am not here to bash or pick sides. I just thought instead of complaining about a site.... why don't we look at the bigger picture here.

That's what this thread is about looking at the bigger CYBER picture so to speak.

I have been on other forums with similar privileges. But this site is wonderful I get to "chat up" with people of my own. (ie. write in my "language" patois, without a problem)
