MTV drops Beenie Man after homosexuals threaten protest
After a threatened protest by South Florida gay activists, American television network, MTV has announced that reggae star Beenie Man will not perform on Saturday at a concert in downtown Miami.
MTV spokeswoman Marnie Black confirmed that Beenie Man would not perform as the organisers did not want anything to overshadow the concert.
The move is in response to a call made Tuesday by a London gay-rights group for South Florida gay activists to protest at Beenie Man's planned Miami appearance.
Beenie Man has been dogged by controversy throughout his summer tour.
After the Pennsylvania Lesbian and Gay Task Force threatened to boycott an August 6 concert in Philadelphia, Beenie Man dropped two potentially offensive songs from his playlist.
Two weeks ago, American cigarette giant R.J. Reynolds axed Beenie Man from 15 concerts on its Salem ''Stir Your Senses'' U.S. tour.
In a statement the company said it did not tolerate any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation.
Beenie Man's world tour is scheduled to end on November 8 with a concert in Miami.
