Dr Alex do you think we are owed an opology from anyone for the trans-atlantic slave trade? If so which nations should apologise and what form should that apology take?

I dont believe we are owed any apologies from any nation, SPECIFICIALLY with respect to the trans-atlantic slave trade. And I am going to assume that you are referring to "Europeans/American" nations, in this respect.

My reasons are as follows:
If we study our (or my) african history deep enough we will come to realize two pertinent facts:

1. The practise of slavery was well established in Africa centuries before the Europeans set foot on their western shores. Natives were often placed into slavery when they defaulted on trades/barters as well as by tribes after attacking and plundering other neighboring tribes.

2. Many of our very own african forefathers were instrumental is capturing other africans and selling them to the Europeans.

Slavery by any other name or nation is still slavery. It is wrong.

Now, if asked the question: " do you think we are owed an apology from anyone for the ill-treatment of african americans in post-slavery United States as well as the native americas in the 18/19th century" then I have a very different opinion.

Why should such valuable questions be in here, this should be a thread all to its self so we can all discuss... anyways... Dr.Alex ... can you tell us more about urself?

To seriously answer that question I would ask you these:

Whats the ambient temperature of the "room" you are in?
Do you have dry socks and shoes on?
Are your shoes sufficiently loose and is not impeding circulation?

If all of the above are adequate, then I would start thing about health reasons.

Its about 24 degrees celcius in the office right now, no I dont think my shoes are dry from this mornings walk with the dogs in the snow, but I think the sock are? Do you think thicker socks would help?
