Re: Things a Jamaican would never do....

Tell Rupert I said he is a big chicken! I took Jomo to 6 flags twice now. The first 5 rollercoasters he went on, he shut his eyes. He nearly cried when I made him ride in the front car. Then, he opened his eyes on the last one. Our second trip to 6 flags, he was a crazed man. He loves the rollercoasters, with his eyes open now.

Re: Things a Jamaican would never do....

Oh i know, he has said this year he MAY try a waterslide, but thats a big MAYBE! Summer is almost over and nothing. I took him to Paramount Canada's Wonderland 2 years ago, what a waste - " Dem people mad"!!! He is such a die hard yardie, that even trying different foods is a big thing. He discovered Thai,(which he likes) but anything pizza, pasta, sandwiches etc - its always a no go! People say he's picky but I say he's just simple in culinary taste!!!

Re: Things a Jamaican would never do....

I forgot about the water slides. 6 Flags St. Louis has 3 of varying heights. Jomo loved them. I couldn't get him to stop running up in line.

Now, foods he is more open minded to.....we have thin pizza that he likes, White Castles, says our Chinese is so much better then JA's, Steak N' Shake fries, and Red Lobster. Found out he loves Gyros (with Lamb). We still eat his JA cooking most days; but at least we have some variety to choose from otherwise.

Re: Things a Jamaican would never do....

Yes Rupert sometimes is overly picky - but no burgers, likes red lobster, and some other restaurants as long as there is chicken or steak on the menu with no sauces we are always fine! We eat JA cooking almost everyday except Tuesday which is Thai food day! Monday it was Pumpkin beef soup that I made - it was so good!

I have a J'can friend that always says "if you ever see Jamaicans on a ski hill it's probably because there was a plane crash."

Some of Jomo's friends are all into acting big and bad-gangsta!; but do you think any of them would jump the cliff at Rick's? Oh, hell no. Big Fat Chickens is how I see them all now.

Re: Things a Jamaican would never do....

Yes he came to Canada with me, but we went the long route. I lived in JA with him for almost 2 years then we went to UK( I have dual citizenship with Finland) so it lets me work and live in UK and Rupert automatically was allowed to come (we went before the visas came into effect), then in UK i sent in a letter and our passports to Uk home office and they gave him a 5 year stay. After about a year we applyed for visitor visa to Canada in UK and came here. I applyed for him while in Canada. It took almost $2000CDN and 1 year from start to finish, although we waited almost 1 year before we started the process, but we are now finally thru that process and things are complete.
It was a tough haul, It was a total of 3 years that Rupert did not go "home" and that put some strain on our marriage for sure. But we got thru that and things are on the up and up! After his permenant residency came thru in June this year we applyed for a US visa and they gave him a 10 year multiple entry no questions asked! Easiest visa to get thats for sure, makes me laugh though cause if applying in Jamaica its hard to get the visas

Re: Things a Jamaican would never do....

Yikes!! My head hurts just trying to follow all that.

Reason I ask is Jomo & I have a friend who is marrying a Canadian girl this Sat. Wondering how hard it is going to be for them to get him his visa.

Re: Things a Jamaican would never do....

ARe they getting married in JA or Canada? The visa process is alot of paper work, making sure you have lots of pictures, then if applying while in Canada there is a 6-8 month wait for interview time, then attending interview, they ask everything from furniture in house, what you had for dinner night before, what side of bed you lseep on, who pays the bills, who cooks, when you last had sex, everything. If you do not know your partner that well, it is a hard interview. It was easy for us we had already been together 5 years. Then you wait about 4 weeks for your decision, which then lets your partner get a SIN# to work and get health coverage. We were lucky the girl that interviewed us was Jamaican and she let Rupert speak patois that put him at ease, she basically told us when we left that she was leaning to "approval". Then you wait another 4-8 weeks to get another interview but its just a formality to sign your residency papers, then 4-6 more weeks until your residency card comes that lets you leave Canada.
