That does say "preference" right????

I prefer men to women... for friends... because I have found that I can not trust most women....

Is that prejudice? Or preference?

No... it doesn't say preference... it says preconceived preference. It's the fact that the preference is based on incomplete information/experience.

Re: Preference VS. Prejudice

I love you guys for opening my mind to a new way of thinking some days.

This really is a confusing topic.

I suppose the man/woman thing could go both ways, Windy. By experience, you prefer men to women as friends cause the women you know have been less then trustworthy. But, by hinting that women in general are not trustworthy is a preconceived idea generalizing ALL women and therefore prejudicial.

Re: Preference VS. Prejudice

Windy I would say thats your preference. You are not basing your choice on preconcieved notions but actually what you have experienced.

Re: Preference VS. Prejudice

But heres the catch JG.
Is Windy purposely stating away from woman? Does she meet a woman who is nice and helpful but says to her listen we cant be friends because your a woman and therefore not trustworthy? Thats why I say there has to be some power behind it to mean something. Because in the end if Windy says she is not befriending anymore woman based on a poor generalization then thats her loss. Its lacks any real power and it just becomes Windys ignorance. Now if Windy owns her own business and never hires a woman then we are talking problems.
No to say that there has to be power to be prejudice it just has more effect when you have the power.
Sorry Windy not to target you just going off your example!!!

Re: Preference VS. Prejudice

I also think its generalizations. Choosing friends is a personal choice. You choose who you want. But if Windy said all woman are untrustworthy then thats being prejudiced.
I feel like I am in logic class....if the ground is wet and it rained then the ground is wet becasue it rained! lol

Re: Preference VS. Prejudice

it's this simple for me:
preference: you prefer something/one. a want, a need.
prejudice: just screams ignorance

Re: Preference VS. Prejudice

No... but I am a lot slower to open up to women... it takes me a lot longer to warm up to them...

However, the first time I see back biting tendencies... I am out the door...

I probably have (and this is not the friends I have developed on line) 3 really good grilfriends that I would trust with anything.

And even with the friendships I have developed on line... I would hope that I would feel as comfortable with say JG, JC, Kiki, Jelakins in person... but I do not know that I would right off the bat... even though they know sooooo much about me... but it probably would not take me as long as it would with a complete stranger.

Re: Preference VS. Prejudice

Just like with the LNs (local nationals) that work here...

They disgust me... because none of them that I have met take baths...

That makes me feel prejudice... and that makes me feel awful

but I can't help it... they get near me and my nose just turns up and I try to hold my breath as long as possible... ugggghhhhh

I am a horrible person. Because they are really sweet people...

Re: Preference VS. Prejudice

Ohhhh... I have it...

There is a girl here that wears.... jeesh... these clothes and well she just looks like TRASH...

So me thinking she looks like trash even though I have barely spoken to her is being prejudice right?

Re: Preference VS. Prejudice

No not really... what you see keeps your thoughts from being able to be considered prejudice... If you had talked to her first then assumed she would look like trash, then that's prejudice..
