i will bore everyone to tears first...this will be a long running thread telling ya'll about the adventures i experience along the way....

Re: The Building Experience

i met my contractor through a girl at work who recently had him build her new house...we discussed options for homes within my price range...there weren't many (lol).

he had built a home for his in-laws that i liked:

only problem is i wanted 3 bedrooms and this one only had 2. luckily my contractor designed the home and he could tweak it so i could get the 3 bedrooms. he made the adjustments and we signed the contract...he then sent his drawing to his architect to draw up the blueprints...1st problem (not mine..the contractors) he had miscalculated the dimensions and because we had already signed the contract my price is guaranteed....he had originally advised me the house would be 1040 square feet...because of his miscalculation my house is now 1194 square feet!!! yay me!!

Re: The Building Experience

Tuesday, July 25th they started clearing my land...

2nd problem (mine this time)...found out the septic/sewage hook-up is across the street...so i have to pay to break the road, lay the pipe and patch the road....about $2000. ouch.

Re: The Building Experience

How exciting! I actually am in my second home that I have had built...but two completely different building situations. Your process may become stressful at times if it hasn't already...but it sure is nice to finally move into a new home at the end of the process! Looks like a real nice piece of land...can't wait to see what's next!!

Girl inspite of the mishaps (and I know about mishaps) you're gonna be so happy when its done! How long does building take on your end of the country? Here, because of the labor shortage it takes almost a year!

Your neice is adorable!

So make sure you invite me to the housewarming!

Re: The Building Experience

DG...its my first home so i'm nervous, excited, scared, happy....whew...just a mix of emotions. i trust my contractor, feel like i've known him forever and he comes highly recommended by friends, others in the building industry...even by my mortgage specialist!! its a great piece of land...my family owns about 56 acres in the middle of prime developping land...middle of town...so presently there will be houses across the street....one on the left side of my house (about 50ft away), about 300ft between my house and the next one to the right and about 45 acres of forest behind me!!

JC...it will be done at the end of October...about 12 weeks from ground break to closing. the house warming will be november 25th...everyone is invited!!! gifts not necessary...nonperishable foods items accepted instead!!! (grocery party) lol

I think I've commented on your son before....he is the spitting image of YOU, besides his blonde locks.

And about that housewarming.....I won't be able to make it since a week later I'll be IN JAMAICA!!! I can't afford both...I can't even afford one of those trips! LOL

Re: The Building Experience

lillith i know you're so excited at the thought of being in your new home in just a few months. did you have to come out of pocket for the additional expenses (pipe-laying & filling) or will the cost go into the mortgage?

my goodness the kids are getting big! i'm diggin' your son's long hair, it seems that's the going trend for boys his age. jayden must be so bad because she knows her cuteness can take her far, i think that's my son's perspective too.

beyond excited. its been a long time coming. yes, they are going to add the cost of septic and fill into my mortgage...its only going to make approx $5 difference per month...but over 25 yr mortgage with interest...its gonna add up!!! lol

the kids are huge..and complete opposites...Brendan is mild mannered and introspective and Jayden is wild and crazy. keeps things interesting!!

Re: The Building Experience

Hi lillith...I really love the progress you have made so and understand very well the stress of building a house from scratch. The best of luck to you as you "journalise" your days.

Re: The Building Experience

Lillith, that is very exciting news. Nice to see all those trees. My co-worker just had a house built but it's in one of those new subdivisions where they just clear cut everthing and start from scratch. The lack of natural greenery is just depressing--I could never do that. What area is your house in?
