you had me giggling with that remark because the "driving issue" was the first time i realized that if i'm gonna date a jamaican, i need to change my paradigm. i just couldn't comprehend why or how a grown a$$ man could have a stable job but not drive. that was before i realized how expensive it is to own a car in jamaica and that the average jamaican travels by taxi. now, after being in jamaica several times, i have no desire to even attempt driving myself! lol
what can i do for my own car? ummmm, not much. i know that if anything goes wrong with it i can call my uncles and they'll fix it for me.
funny story: my house is in the same district where i teach so all the neighborhood kids know me. one day i left my car running so i could get something from the house. the engine was making a terrible noise, it sounded like a bird was being held hostage under the hood and was squawking for dear life and a 2nd grader rode his bike past me and said, "miss king, i think you've got a loose belt". sure enough, the next time i got my oil changed the technician said, "miss, you've got a loose belt." after that i found that kid and told him he was right. imagine that!

Re: Girls and cars......
Usually, I just close my eyes and pray. I used to think Chicago, LA, and NY drivers were the worst. Then, I visited Jamaica!!!!

Hey...i don't think there is anything really wrong with the way we Jamaicans drive!LOL We might have a little bit of fun, taking a few joy rides but nutten too bad. I have to admit though some of our roads are really bad.

Re: Girls and cars......
i know a little about cars like changing oil, putting air in tyres, can even change a battery.
but the best thing about cars is to pull men. picture the scene - car breaks down, you get out, open the bonnet, bend over gazing into bonnet, a line of cars driven by men pulls up offering to help - you can fill the rest in....

Re: Girls and cars......
I can change the oil and the tire. Other than that it's about it...
Is it really true that many on the island don't learn to drive? Everytime I go, my bf drives, or one of his friends does so I figured it was pretty standard. We take taxis a lot too, but he usually drives when we go down to MoBay or Negril...
I agree that I get scared watching some of the other drivers on the road in JA, but luckily my babes drives pretty well, at least when I'm in the car. His mom says he drives too fast but only when i'm not around...
