Re: Mechanics & Tow truck drivers

Question:

Does towing a care incorrectly really do damage to the car and how will you know if damage has been done.

If you have a rear wheel drive truck or car, i was told that the tow man must not pick and pull the car from the front wheels...is this true

my car was towed just that way and i want to know the warning signs that damaget o my transmission has occured

If a car is loaded up to the towing vehicle incorrectly then yes damage to the bodywork or suspension can occur.

Depends on the gearbox mainly and other factors. Some gearboxes don't like it. As far as I remember, most front wheel drives had the potential for damage to gearbox when rear lifted. Some gearboxes need the engine running to keep them lubricated. More modern vehicles are more prone to such damage when towed in the wrong manner.

Listen out for rumbling and whining noises.

Hope that helps.
