Maiden name or Married name?
Hillary Rodham-Clinton, Portia Simpson-Miller, Louise Bennet-Coverley. Many a famous and interesting women have taken the liberty to include their "maiden name" with their married name.
Do you think that a woman should or should not include their 'unmarried' name alongside their married name on official documents as well as in everyday usage?
Do you think that it should be her perogative alone to do so or should she consult her husband on the issue?
In a strange twist, some now believe that women should NOT take their married names at all because it somehow robs them of their own identity. Some even relate to the diffciulties after divorce on getting back their maiden names and the hassles of making changes in offcial documents.
Should they or should they take their husbands name after marriage?

Re: Maiden name or Married name?
i took my married name because it was easier to pronounce than my maiden name.
i think its up to the individual on what they want to do take on married name, hyphenate it, etc.

Re: Maiden name or Married name?
I took my married name.....and kept it after divorce cause my young sons wanted me to keep same name as them....when I marry again i will take his name, because He wants that and so do I. My sons are older now and they aren't concerned about the name thing any longer...

Re: Maiden name or Married name?
I think a woman should take her husband's and carry that only. My sister claimed that she felt the losing id bs with her first marriage so she chose to use both maiden and married the second time. I know it bothers my brother in law

Now THATS funny.
I am afraid to ask but, is your maiden name English, or is it some French Canadian/Gaelic typa name?

I have heard of many Jamaican men who have expressed an issue with that. Me personally, I dont care. If my wife wants to keep her maiden name them I see it as her honoring her family name. I dont have an issue with it.
Now, if she REFUSE to use my name now...That's a totaally different thang.

Then that just goes to show you how ignorant I am of Nordic geography.
I though being 'Scanadanavian' included anyone Danish, Swedish or Norwegian.

Re: Maiden name or Married name?
this is where im from:
Finland en-us-Finland.ogg /ˈfɪnlənd/ (help·info), officially the Republic of Finland[4] (Suomi_Finland.ogg Finnish: Suomi; Swedish: Finland (help·info)), is a Nordic country situated in the Fennoscandian region of northern Europe. It borders Sweden on the west, Russia on the east, and Norway on the north, while Estonia lies to its south across the Gulf of Finland. The capital city is Helsinki.
Around 5.3 million people reside in Finland, with the majority concentrated in the southern part of the country.[1] It is the eighth largest country in Europe in terms of area and the most sparsely populated country in the European Union. The native language for most of the population is Finnish, a member of the Finno-Ugric language family most closely related to Estonian, and is one of only four official EU languages not of Indo-European origin. The second official language of Finland, Swedish, is the mother tongue of 5.5 percent of the population.[5] Finland is a democratic, parliamentary republic with a mostly Helsinki-based central government and local governments in 348 municipalities.[6] A total of a million residents live in Greater Helsinki area (including Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen and Vantaa) and a third of the country's GDP is produced there. Other major cities include Tampere, Turku, Oulu, Jyväskylä, Kuopio and Lahti.
Finland was historically a part of Sweden and from 1809 an autonomous Grand Duchy within the Russian Empire. Finland's declaration of independence from Russia in 1917 was followed by a civil war, wars against the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, and a period of official neutrality during the Cold War. Finland joined the United Nations in 1955, the OECD in 1969, and the European Union in 1995 and participates in the Eurozone. Finland has been ranked the second most stable country in the world, in a survey based on social, economic, political, and military indicators.[7]
Finland has a good standing in many international comparisons of national performance such as the share of high-technology manufacturing and health care.[8] However, Bank of Finland predicts that the Finnish economy is to contract strongly between 2009-11 due to the global crisis
we consider ourselves part of scandinavia!!!!
