I heard an ad promoting some spead dating event at a local sports bar out here (Jamrock). Apparently you are supposed to meet people and spend 5 minutes with them to get to know them then move on the the next person or something like that. My question is this... are people really that desperate to meet people? Whatever happened to just meeting people at regular places and getting to know them? Speed dating? Mi nuh really see how dat werk

Fi real B. Five mintues of 'getting to know' is ridiculous. That is just time enough for salutation much less fi know someone. I don't think it will work.

I saw it on Oprah! It's silly, but at least if someone makes you sick or annoys you, you only have to spend 5 minutes with them!

We have that here in Calgary....its called "6-minute Dates" and its all the rage here. It happens at local cafe's on certain nights.

I go with what Bashy said....but then why put yourself there in the first place?? I dunno...I don't have this much trouble attracting men.

I've been to one of the speed dating things before. It was very disappointing. It wasn't the 5 minutes that was the problem. The theme was active and fit....nothing fit or cute about most of the men there. One guy kinda looked like a wierdo. I think I saw an axe hanging out of his back pocket.

I have heard some success stories, but I think sometimes people go to those things minus the good intentions. I attended a singles party last week and was followed out to my car by this shady character....so there is a risk.
