And eventhough we may not agree with the things people say.. "Go to hell" is VERY inappropriate to say to a person.
I can't believe what I am seeing here in this thread. I dont agree with sum of his posts either however telling smaddy to go to hell?
And to ask on the first page if we all agree to delete it then it will be? Wouldnt it be better if we were ALL mods then?
Racism is sumthing we ALL deal with, wether we are black, white or mixed. It should be able to be discussed. I agree on James's approach to be very aggressive and not too smart to do it on a Jamaican forum but I am sure he just wanted the opinion of a JAMAICAN. If the post wasnt agreed on in the first place it should have been deleted right away.
There is such a things as freedom of speech.
You can choose to ignore my posts.
Just like how I choose to ignore 99.9% of yours.
The Hutu-Tutsi conflict is an ongoing tribal conflict and finds its origins in the Belgian colonization of central Africa. As a matter of fact, before the arrival of the Belgians, the Hutu and Tutsi actually lived in peace with one another for hundreds of years. It was the Belgian introduction of white supremacy in the form of the so-called Hamitic hypothesis and the preferential treatment given by the European colonizers to the lighter-skinned, more Caucasian-looking Tutsis, as opposed to the Hutus, that is ultimately responsible for much of the tribal rivalry within that region of the continent. However, only Jamaicans display a generalized hatred towards all blacks, regardless of where they come from, whereas the Tutsis and Hutus are fighting amongst themselves, NOT against other blacks. In short:
I disagree... The Belgians enforced a rigid "racial classification" based upon the Tutsi's being deemed more "European in size, facial features and bone structure" thereby creating a "superior race" of Africans that more closely resembled the more "desirable" white european "racial" characteristics...
They did not see them as distinct "tribes". The genocide occured as a result of long standing, generational hatred... not "tribalism"...

There is racial discrimination against black people going on right now in Jamaica and I think we should talk about it openly. Just ignoring it will not make it go away. Anti-black racism is a serious problem in Jamaica.
GG. If someone comes on here and posts a thread that says we are all a bunch of fill in the blank... that person is not interested in having an enlightening conversation... they are trying to incite people... regardless... it is offensive and I question this persons motivations. Therefore, I (who RARELY if EVER believes in censorship) request that this thread be closed, if not deleted. It is wholly without merit.

Impressive, the OP managed to get members bent at each other without every getting anyone on his one man bandwagon to "boycott Jamaica. We should stop visiting and sending our money to Jamaica until they learn how to treat black people with respect and dignity."

Nothing EVER makes racism go away....that's the problem. It starts with EACH PERSON. Why don't you lead by example?
And that's fine. I know about this battle, my sister is Tutsi. Its still hatred and killing of one's own kind.
Anyways like I said, racism and hatred is all over the world.
I agree, but it doesn't mean we should turn a blind eye towards it. We should combat racism wherever we find it. However, many Jamaicans do turn a blind eye to the racism in their own backyard and I am simply pointing attention to it.

The only way to stop racism is to challenge it wherever one finds it. This is how you lead by personal example and that is exactly what I am doing. I am being fair to other people by acknowledging that racism and hatred exists everywhere and I am not trying to say that ALL Jamaicans are anti-black racists. However, a significant percentage of Jamaicans are ashamed of being black and are hostile towards people of African descent. I am only trying to get people to realize that Jamaican anti-black racism is a problem and that we should do something about it. Ignoring it won't make it go away.
I think most people of African descent avoid Jamaicans because they are racially intolerant towards black people and culture.
I found that statement particularly humourous for two reasons.....
1) 'Nigerians' are allegedly always saying that the Jamaicans are the 'rubbish' people they didn't want and therefore sent / gave up to slavery....!!! If Jamaicans did / do have issues with Nigerians, I think a statement like that is justified.... But note - it would be NIGERIANS not all black peoples!
2) if you re-read the statement, it sounds very much more like Africans are the ones who are racially intolerant....
However, you are making blanket statements about the attitudes of an entire country of people that is wholly inaccurate...

You are doing the same thing and calling it TRIBALISM....

Censorship is what the Nazis practiced in Germany during the 1940s, what the segregationists practiced in the Southern USA during the age of Jim Crow, and what the whites practiced in apartheid South Africa. No! Censorship is what kept black people in chains for hundreds of years! The only way to stop racial hatred is by having an open discussion about it.
