LS said that it was an email that had a million other email recipients prior....
IMO it was a 'standard joke' email that gets forwarded to everyone in your address book....
I really honestly didn't see anything offensive in it at all....
For me it was a bit like reading a real McCoy joke!!! Nothing more nothing less....
Seriously 1stP - if one of your black friends sent that to you, wouldn't you have laughed????
Besides - from LS's perspective it was sent to her by a friend.... unless the characteristic of this friend has changed dramatically in recent weeks I can see no reason why LS would need to question this person's friendship!
IMO It was a joke....
Laugh!!!!
not a million Jels, only 3. to get clarification ive asked her exactly who sent her it. as yet no reply (and NO it wasnt JamCan or anyone u all know lol). but its good to see other peoples interpretation of it. i personally didnt find it humurous but like Rasta4eye said coming from Chris Rock I admit that I would have probably seen it in a different way.
I gotta jump in here..some of the funniest **** I heard in my life came from the likes of Chris Rock, Dave Chapelle and Richard Pryor when they make fun of black people or black lifestyles on stage. Everyone's sense of humour is different...and even though this sounds hypocritical a joke about black people from a black person always seems less offensive.
Hence a midget will do short jokes..fat comic does fat jokes etc...it is the cornerstone of stand up comedy.
Would people be offended if the same email was quoted out of Chris Rock?

When you said

a fwd from many other email addresses.
I had visions of the forwarded email I sometimes get - and I know I got that one at least six (6) months ago - hence my assumption....
Based on R4E's explanation, perhaps we all need to seriously considered the level of racism in ourselves... why is the same joke acceptable from one person but not from another???

IMO ... I think people would laugh not cringe.
I'm not a fan of Chris Rock live.....for the very reasons you outline here, guess we all have different tastes in hummour as well as everything else......some of his movies are very funny, but his stand up commedy wouldn't sell me a ticket
So does anyone/everyone here find Russel Peters comedy funny as hell?? I certainly do.....and his entire act consists of racial jokes. But the man is brown (Indian) himself. I wonder who'd like it if he was white??
So is this a double standard?
(if you dont know who he is just search Russel Peters on youtube).

Nice one JC, the guy is talented and made me smile. Trying to go through all his clips
Here's a quick link for anyone who wants a quick look.
..btw..the clip is taken from his performance on DEF JAM... (A black fronted stand up comedy event). If they can accept it on their stage then I think I rest my case that laughter is in the ear of the beholder!
