Tattoos - Love or Lunacy?

Once upon a time me and my partner, very much in love, visited a tattoo artist. We each got the others name tattooed on our arms. It was so romantic, we watched the sunset then went home and spent the next few days rubbing cream into each others tattoos and gazing at them with pride. We decided it was much more of a commitment than getting married as you can get a divorce paper, but you cant (unless you pay a lot of money) get rid of the name under your skin.

now the tattoo is all that is left of our relationship I personally have no regrets (so far) as i think of my tattoos as a life story and he was an important part of my life. in darker moments when ive questioned his love i reassured myself that no-one would make this commitment if their feelings werent genuine. is this true or am i deluded?

is it really the same commitment as a marriage - after all marriage (if your not religious) is only a piece of paper and a wedding ring? has anyone got names tattooed on themselves and regretted it?

The only male's name that's about to be tattoo'd on my skin is my son.

Your cheating ex husband had "HOTTEACH" tattooed on him? Hmmm, a rather brilliant seduction strategy if he seduces only hot teachers.

Re: Tattoos - Love or Lunacy?

I always love the Johnny Depp story where instead of Winona on his arm, it now says "Wino Forever".

Re: Tattoos - Love or Lunacy?

Well, Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon got tattoos of each other's names, so it must be LOVE, right??????

Nick's is so darn big, it's ridiculous.

Re: Tattoos - Love or Lunacy?

I have 3 tattoos so far - but I would never tattoo someone's name on me - Something that was symbolic to both of us, yes, matching ones, yes - but not a name.

Re: Tattoos - Love or Lunacy?

Nah, I will not be tatooing another man's name on my arm. Not even my husband. A ring, peice of paper, and a loaded gun will do just find for me thank you.

Re: Tattoos - Love or Lunacy?

I think it's bad luck actually. I don't know anyone who has a tattoo of someone else and they're still together! I have a man's name on my left forearm, but we're linked FO' LIFE...it's my dad, lol. My cousin practiced on me and a few other relatives when I was 15, luckily he's a great artist...nothing amateur about it, and it was free.

Re: Tattoos - Love or Lunacy?

Mos def.
A tatto is on the surface and is often done to prove one's love for another, but to me it's like...well I'll buy you this ginormous ring to prove how much I care about you.

If the love is true and genuine, there should be a permanent tattoo on your heart!
(awww, I win the hallmark comment of the day!) LOL.
