I would agree with her. Her husband is sick and not with mind. She is supporting as she should.

Thats not nice.

That is a very debilitating disease that literally takes away the mind.

Can you imagine?
A lifetime of love and happiness with someone, just erased from thei mind.
You loving them as much as ever before and them not even remembering your name.
That hurts.

For me, it would have been better if we had a fight and broke up.

I hope that at my near death age of 90 I do not need to "break up" with my alzheimer's sufferin' boy friend, just looks wrong.. then i'm gonna be the talk of the town at Bingo!!!.. Nope.. I'd rather get "rid" of him.

I would be heartbroken. But, I would also know, it is unlikely, hell, impossible for him to really do anything. And, he probably won't remember a darn thing anyhow.

To make him remember the girlfriend even more?

It's a hard one to deal with. If he was in a home that suggests the strain it might have put on the family. I'm sure she's happy that he is happy. He no longer provides any emotional, physical, etc support to her so the love exists on memories and emotions etched in the brain.
Answer: Happy for him. A little sad inside but thats ok. Angry that it has to become public discussion.

THis is what would bother me most.

I had an aunt that died with alzhiemers, and it's really hard on a family, let alone the spouse.

Even at 90 they still can't seem to behave demselves.......i'm with GG, nice old remedy of too damn much benedryl consumption
