Tough choices, Alex. I think I would follow the advice of my pediatrician. I had an issue come up before (not this kind at all) where I researched till I was blue in the face....internet, books, magazines, talked to people, etc. My Aunt, who is a Special Ed. teacher, told me to talk it out with my doctor and trust what he said. We sat down on a few seperate occassions and discussed goals for my son. In the end, I did trust what he said. It's been 10years now and I have found that his advice and the treatments we sought were right on the money.

But kinda advice can a doctor provide if the child is equally male and female?
I know of someone (Well, My ex knew her better than I did ) here in the States who was faced with such a dilemma almost 20 years ago.
She never did the operation and now her "daughter" looks female (curved hips, breast and all) but still has both organs. "She" has to get electrolysis (radiation theraphy) to stem the growth of facial and chest hairs and tends to speak in a soft voice.
Never had the nerve to ask any questions though... but I cant help but wonder if that child was satisfied being raised as a girl.

Even when a child is born with both organs....the chromosonal makup would lend or lean to one side even if it is just slightly....Hermaphadite is a term we associate with haveing both genitalia but it goes a lot deeper...there are hundreds and thousand of GENETIC hermaphridites where they do not possess both organs but hormonally or choromosonally they are both...but in this situaiton, one id always dominant....so i would choose them most dominant one and raise my child the best i cna.... i cant imaging having to explain to the child the he or she has no sexual identity...that can really mess a person headup BAD>
I remember a case like that while I was in school. There was this girl who acted like a boy. She had breast and everything. However after telling us for a long time that she was both boy and girl (of course we did not believe her) she took a few of us in the bathroom and showed us the penis and a vagina. Needless to say it was a shocking sight. We didn’t know such things existed back in the 80’s. However, I saw her about a year ago and she’s totally male. She said she always felt like a boy but her mom preferred to raise her as a girl.
I would not take it upon myself to make the choice as to what sex the child would want to be when it grows up... I would have to allow the child to makes its own choice. I may make a choice that suite me or what I perceive to be right andturns out that I am wrong.

Very good point.
