Yes... they also went to work on Hilary Clinton immediately and with much vigor. It's the American way!!!

Maybe not a baby mama; but she's been attacked just the same.....different words, same intent.
What you said, Miss B.
And, no, I am not joking. If I were, I would put a little smiley face behind my statement.

Re: Racism - An illness or a Way of life?
On the one hand we would have undeniable positive role modeling for young people of color who could now see themselves reflected in the most powerful man in the country and arguably the free world...
But on the otherhand, we could potentially have people (esp. white people) using him as an "example" of the fact that "see-- we don't have a problem with racism in the US-- we have a black president"... which we all KNOW is not the case...
So... he does present a fascinating dichotomy in that regard! What are your thoughts?
this is a very powerfull statement
i thought of this as well...it would do much to improve the US in reputation (in this regard) abroad....also, i had mixed feeligs when it came to Obama becoming President....
First, he must suvivees the medias masecre of him. Every and any way to discredit this man has been done from calling his Harvard grad wife "Obama baby mama" to "Fist pound terrorist"...its all put in to disrepect and discredit that man.....ANYBODY that dont see that is a LIAR
I also have a fear, (not that he cant do the job) but that at the end of his short 4 year term, if he cant fix the GIGILLIONS of DOLLARS of dept we are in or do something to jump start this wrecked economy,...then he will be looked at (not as a bad, failed pres) but "see u cant let a Black president man lead a nation".....shoot, lets hope he get inauguarated and some milita group wont assianate him first.
i think he does represents change. i think he can do a great job. (not just bcause he is black) but cuz he represent all of what american needs
LadyR... we also discussed this! I said almost the same thing... I have a lot of fear about him surviving the presidency PERIOD. You know he and his wife and kids sat down at some point at discussed the threat to his personal well-being... which makes me admire his courage even more.

Re: Racism - An illness or a Way of life?
I did not vote for Bush either time, GG.
However, once he was in office, I didn't bash him. We were stuck with him....what was the point?

Re: Racism - An illness or a Way of life?
And excluding JG,
Obviously no one in their right mind would admit they voted for him, yet he became president AGAIN....

Thank you...
And I'd be happy to dig up my voting record if need be!
Make no mistake... I wasn't thrilled about voting for John Kerry.... but I would sooner cut my left arm off than vote for George Bush...
However... you are right... somebody voted for him.

Re: Racism - An illness or a Way of life?
I do not mind the racial discussions, as long as we dont start insulting eachother they are healthy debates.
I cant join yawdchat, my 11 IP addresses have been banned, for no apparant reason, I cant believe I cant go there and chat about herbal baths and perfumed candles!!!
I will be here during lunch to voice my real opinion

There are those who admit it, GG. Just cause he didn't pan out to their expecations doesn't mean they aren't still staunch Republicans. They have high hopes for the next candidate. For that, I think they are just high!

Nope, not ALL of us. Generalization. Been caught in that trap before, won't go there again. I'll just watch you all go round and round with the same thing.
