I am an intelligent, articulate, beautiful, confident and proud Woman, who does not fit the common steroetype that many people have of a Woman, I want all who come into contact with me, to see me, and for the very essence of who I am, to be evident in my interactions with Black, White and purple with spots. Who I am is informed by the oppression that you suggest can impact on ones self esteem, but I refuse to be shackled in the 21st century, I dont accept the deficit model.....If people are intimidated by that, thats really their problem, I am not watering down who I am because of others insecurities...

Fits me to a T, you too? Stereotyping doesnt excist in a world where nobody is the same

Re: Racism - An illness or a Way of life?

You know what, I am gonna speak up and say what I REALLY think. I am tired of having to watch out for people that have long @ss toes. Ever since I joined ETJ I always wondered WHY in the world there were so many race related topics and so many darn arguements about it. I dont get it. It is clear to me that the white people that are here on ETJ are all either married, in love, enjoy the company, love the food, love the culture of back people. Why the heck are there so many fistfights about race on ETJ, could it be because the black people actually resent the whites then? Why do the black people feel as if they need to defend theirselves against the whites if they have obviously shown that they are either married, in love, enjoy the company, love the food, love the culture of back people??? OMG its like an ungoing process about sumthing that is so irrelevant..

1stP I do NOT applaud ur post and sure aint gonna say Amen to it. In the eyes of God
we are ALL the same, our color doesnt matter... White women can also be proud of the color of their skin.. which BTW I do NOT understand.. So now we need to be proud of the color of our skins too? Cho!!! I dont think so! We got that color cuz GOD picked it for us... nuttn to be proud or ashamed, unproud.. stressed or happy about... God made you like that, each and all should be proud of the kind of person they are, and how ur character is reflecting on others, not because they have a certain tan or milky-ness color to their skin! Thats just ridiculous!I am not proud of the color of my skin, I am proud to be the child of God, thats really all to be proud about.

Re: Racism - An illness or a Way of life?

wow...

I meant I love 1st P for being who she is...

I love me just fine GG...

I love to hear of anyone that is proud of who and what they are...

As for the arguments on race... we are always going to have that... because it is always going to be an issue... it is an ongoing issue in every day life... and although I might not can empathize because I have never been treated as black people get treated I can sympathize because I have seen it and seen the effects of it and have stood against it for all of my adult life...

I have lost friends over it... I have lost jobs over it... but one thing I have never lost over it is the respect and love that my black friends have for me.

You can not simply say that we are all the same and expect the BS they have to put with to just be pushed aside... and ignored... it won't be... and it shouldn't be...

AND... being that this is a forum about Jamaica... and most Jamaicans are black... you are going to have subjects, i.e. racism... which directly affects their everyday life... being discussed. And everyone is not going to agree.

Re: Racism - An illness or a Way of life?

I think all people on here have already proved demselves one way or the other towards ALL of us. We may have personal dislikes for sum of us on here but most have us have love for eachother.. the skin color doesnt matter.

What I mean is that I do not think that there is any reason at all to defend ur color against any of us on here, we have accepted eachothers color.. or not?

Whatever happens in our daily lives is sumthing different.. I am mixed and belong in the middle.. where does that leave me? Discriminated, just like everybody else... whites.. blacks...red people & the purple spotted...

Yes, I acknowledge the facts of racism. I think of it this way.. white people should just take a look at where the black people have gone, from slaves to the next president of the US.. to respected lawyers etc etc.. as much as the whites tried to keep the black people down.. they rised to the top.. cant say that from them... but on ETJ I dont think there is a reason to defend ur color.. unless you are tryna prove ur better then the rest of us.. neither do I see the necesity in life in general to be proud of ur color.. as I stated above..

There are threads on here about racism (one was recently created by Jel) that didnt break out in defensive arguements.. it doesnt have to be this way.

Re: Racism - An illness or a Way of life?

i cant add much to what youve all just said. ive always seen black women as strong and beautiful. that doesnt make me intimidated it makes me proud of all us women who by gender have had their own discrimination to overcome. that doesnt mean i want men to be intimidated by me just to prove that ive made it. i want to stand alongside men with mutual respect. and ive always cared more about a persons character than their skin colour or culture.

when i met JaMiss on Negril beach it was arranged by a quick fone call half an hour before we were due to meet and only then did we have to give a physical description of our appearance. JaMiss thought i would be black. it mattered little to either of us what colour, gender or age we were.

GG I am a very confussed about your response here, my post is about ME.....do you understand what that means?....... its about me!!! not you or anyone else its about ME and my experiences, when folk get past their own issues and get that FACT into their head, I wont have to be CONSTANTLY DEFENDING responses that I make about Myself......just as you have in the past asked people, myself included not to undermine the experiences that you have lived, the same applies here to you. I think your response is both oppressive and out of order.....I dont live in an ideal world, I live in a world where people are killed for the colour of their skin, Racism in the UK and the world is alive and well and it impacts on MY life daily. And i'll be dammed if I have to be silenced about my experience on a site representing Jamaica! ..... Weather YOU are proud of the colour of your skin is not my issue, why does the fact that I am proud about the colour of my skin bother you so much?.......why would you be upset as you clearly are by my post .......made as a direct response to the discussion about black oppression and how that may impact on the self esteem of black women, am I not a black woman?, can I not respond as I see fit?......are you so unable to see the context in which my post relates and if so, then ask yourself why????....... why is it when I respond on here with MY own experience, do I get responses like what you have just posted?...... am I not allowed to share MY life experiences like the rest of you? This site is full of your personal issues, shall I proceed through each and ask you to justify why you feel how you do, and if I did how would that make you feel?.....If you have an alternative experience, then by all means share it as a your experience, how dare you tell me how I should feel about who I am?.......... does every post that I make on here in relation to race have to written in a style to suit you and others?...... am I to lie so you and others dont feel uncomfortable?.......MY experience is MY experience....and finally if I experience other ETJ members differently to you,WHICH I DO!!!!! then that too is my expereinece, I am not a clone of you, I am ME, I see things through my own eyes based on MY OWN experienecs with ETJ members......Yes we are all the same in Gods eyes, but God did not create racism, man did! so I fail to see your point in that respect....I'm not living in heaven, i'm living on a Earth! where racism is rife, and that is what this debate is about, we are not all equal in the eyes of man, if we were racism would be wiped out........would it NOT?

And I do hope that by now my post is also clear to you! what I want and what people are.... are two different things, as I have reitereated and dont know how clearer to say it for YOU, I have experienced white people being intimidated by the fact that I am Black and Proud of who I am...if white people are intimideted by me standing proud and comfortable in my skin THAT IS NOT MY ISSUE....THEY NEED TO OWN IT, AND DEAL WITH IT!

Re: Racism - An illness or a Way of life?

For clarity

If my responses are experienecd as being defensive that is because I do not have the right to post my experience and be honnest, I must post a GG version or a LS, or JG version that folk are comfortable with, well its not going to happen, not on my watch. My ancestors lost and continue to loose their iives for this issue, and I must water down my responses, for folk who in the next breath when it suits them, they harp on about freedom of speech, and not underminding their experiences?......as stated before, this is the 21st Century and I refuse to be shackled!
