I still cant deal with the fact that my meaningful relationship turned out to be a holiday romance... I understand some of you better now... maybe thats what I was supposed to learn about this... If so thats pretty ****in sarcastic

This thread hits close to home for me... as I currently find myself in a LDR that happened to originate while i was on holiday... (it wasn't in JA with a Jamaican--- but I've also been there done that-- and SWORE I'd never do it again!!!)
SO I have been very "eyes wide open" about this relationship because of all things I know and have experienced... however... this does feel different because from the beginning, I've been planning a move to be in the city where we met-- LONG BEFORE I MET THIS GUY--- I'm not moving for him, but rather, had already decided and THEN i met him... So I'm kind of in this weird in between world of an LDR that is temporary... And for the record, I had no intention or even knowledge of the whole LDR thing when I first went to JA... I didn't even know about the "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" syndrome... The greatest irony of all was that the week that I was in JA, Terry McMillan and her (now EX) husband were at the same resort with us and THAT is how I learned of the whole concept... And ya... i got sucked right in... I admit it.

That's crazy about the McMillan's, MissB.
Actually, if you refer to the movie......I read the book, then saw the movie.....the romances that people refer to all the time are in no way a mirror image of what happened in that movie. The differences are so many, I could not even begin to describe them. In fact, the only thing I see they have in common is the American woman meets the Jamaican man in Jamaica on vacation. After that, real life is so much more limiting then the premise of the book. I think that's one thing that always bothered me about references to the story.
